Gallery Arcturus is a not‑for‑profit contemporary art gallery and education centre, housed in a heritage Georgian Revival building dating back to 1858. It’s unique in that it isn’t commercial — the focus is on inquiry, creativity, and community rather than selling art. The gallery has nine exhibition spaces across four floors, featuring works from its permanent collection (over 200 pieces, including paintings, sculptures, collages, and photographs) as well as new works created on site. Curator Deborah Harris often develops exhibitions around philosophical or human‑experience questions, making the shows feel more like explorations than static displays. On the plus side, admission is free, the space is intimate and welcoming, and the heritage building itself is part of the experience. On the downside, it’s a small gallery, so you won’t spend more than an hour or two here, and its focus on conceptual inquiry may feel niche if you’re looking for a more traditional art museum.
Such a serene environment for the coolest art. The staff is always helpful and explain so much. This city can be very proud to have this gallery. Keep up the great work.
Fantastic gallery with many levels and lots of unique local artwork. The people working there are delightful and helpful. Really cool layout. I had a lot of fun exploring the different floors and exhibits. Favourite gallery in Toronto. Will be back. Cheers!
A great place in the city to visit, relax and enjoy the work of these artists. Glad I saw it today. It opens at 12 pm and there was not any one yet when I visited there. It is free and there is a place to sit and read about their work.
An exceptional art space, well hidden in plain sight ? Exhibition spaces, a studio, and quiet art library to spend some quiet time in. Go visit, and then keep visiting because now you know where it is ?
Stumbled upon Gallery Arcturus by chance I was instantly inspired by the incredible Art work inside this fabulous gallery Ed and I had a lovely conversation about the serendipity of everything, Ed, absolutely made my day wonderfully charming. Thank you so kindly ?
This art gallery on Carlton Street less than five minutes' walk east from Yonge, operation by The Foundation for the study of Objective Art, has an ever-changing and eclectic display of works in different media by different artists, mostly Canadians. Admission is free, and the friendly staff are eager to guide visitors through the different exhibits in this multi-story space. Definitely recommended for visitors.
