We returned to this restaurant after a pleasant celebration a year earlier, this time for a birthday celebration. This time however we has a dreadful experience. Late food, over an hour wait, then food arrived and it was undercooked and inedible… disastrous. Worst yet, emailed the owners and had no response or concern about this… we’ll never come back! Would have them no stars if possible
I DO NOT recommend this place. Extremely slow service. Food takes a long time to be served. And it’s not that good. Very basic presentation, simple flavours, and the atmosphere is loud. For this price, it’s better to go to Lady Marmelade or any other down the Broadview strip or on Queen. Won’t come back!!!!!!
I have been a big fan of O'Somae since it first opened. The eggs benedict and chicken and waffles are standouts! If you had asked me to race this restaurant last year I would have given it five stars, hands down. However, I had to dock a star because they have changed a few of their accompanying items, and not for the better. They used to serve the most amazing home fries, but have since replaced them with frozen coated french fries. The salad has also changed. It used to be one of the things I looked forward to having with my meal, but now it's just basic lettuce with dressing. It's still a wonderful spot to go for breakfast, but they've made a few changes recently that have decreased my enjoyment.
I'm excited to experience this place for the very first time. A big thanks tomy friend for the fantastic recommendations! I have ordered Duck Confit Poutine and Cappuccino. Right temperature and very tasty. The 2 female servers who work at the front and the bar areas are extremely helpful. I will come back to try new stuff.
In my mind the best breakfast place in the city. Young owners who craft the menue with calm passion. Was not disappointed when I came back a year later and it was just as good as I remembered. Will be back again.
Edit Aug-25: went back for Sunday lunch almost a year after. Service was faster. Place is still popular (for good reasons). Ended up $82 for 2 drinks, 2 dishes & 1 dessert. Went back with same food as last time but traded chicken burger for chicken & waffles. Everything is still very good. Had Sat lunch there. Arrived at peak hour, got the last table, so service was a bit slow (about 20-25 min to get our food). But food was great. Trufle benny was good, truffle taste is very subtle. Chicken burger was very good, chicken is moist, perfectly deep fried and seasoning is good. In both, french fries were very good. Blueberry pancakes were fluffy and very tasty. Ended up $52 (before tip) including 5% discount for cash payment.. so very happy with our experience.
The service was quick and friendly, food was absolutely delicious and they provide a variety of dishes to meet most dietary needs! It's a very cute and bright place that feels very welcoming, and a great place for pics (they have a giant wall mural as you come in)! Came in on a Sunday morning for brunch and left wanting to come back again and again.
