I visited Royal Beef for the first time on Saturday, this was also my first time getting meat from a deli. The ladies were super nice and patient with me, they explained how the meat is cut and weighed. I got the roast beef which turned out to be delicious.
This is your local butcher. They have excellent quality meat for fair prices. It is local source and fresh. Shop is clean and the smell is intoxicating as soon as you walk through the door. Friendly service rounds out an always pleasant experience. If you want meat, get your meat here.
We come here to get things besides beef: buns, cheeses, sauces, seasonings, bacon, etc. Among the deli meats, we love their homemade roasted turkey breast. Shopping here is a bit of a luxury for our household but their prices are competitive when compared to other stores that sell foods of a similar level of quality. When we do shop here, we appreciate the reliable product selection and consistent quality.
I called Royal Beef and asked if they had top blade roast. They said they did. I asked them to put my name on it. I was down there 20 minutes later and they pulled out a shoulder roast with my name on it. Bait and switch. I resent being manipulated this way. They have lost my business due to this unscrupulous practice. This is the second time this happened to me at Royal Beef. My response: If anyone needs cuts explained it is you. I asked for and was told bottom blade would be held for me. When I got there, the package handed to me was clearly labelled Chuck, not blade. I said Chuck is kind of generic name for a large section of the carcass. This does not look like blade roast. You admitted it was shoulder. I believe you told me you had Blade Roast to get me to the store and then sold me shoulder roast once I was there. This behaviour by retail is termed bait and switch. This has nothing to do with identifying Beef cuts. This is the second time you have baited and switched me and I will not be back in your store.
This place is an absolute gem in my neighbourhood. Every cut I've purchased over the years has been consistently excellent, they make in-house their own sausages and some EXCELLENT cold cuts (especially the capicollo). Premade and spiced meatballs and meatloaf are incredible also. My go-to place for excellent meats and cheeses.
I used to work in the area and the meat was incredible. Probably the best butcher I have come across in Toronto. Really enjoyed their steaks and shish kebabs. They also have other specialties like olives. A treasure in this part of town. Locals I am sure know.
Excellent products here - the beef is fantastic! Also check out the fresh cannolis at the cash register. There is a wide selection of cured meats and cheese, as well as condiments, vinegar and oils. But be prepared to pay premium prices!
