Bought a Tibetan singing bowl for my family member online because I couldn’t make it in to pick it up this week and it was delivered to me the next day!! It’s absolutely amazing and the service was 10/10! I will definitely be back to make more purchases and can’t wait to see inside this beautiful store!!
Be extremely cautious before visiting this shop. Your dignity and self-respect may be put under question. If Google allowed it, I would have given this place negative stars. I’ve visited many Tibetan shops around the Toronto area over the years, but I have never encountered such rude and disrespectful behaviour. A lady was at the counter when I entered. I was browsing the items, looking at them closely, checking few items by taking in my hand and asking about prices and details. There was a large computer monitor on the counter, and several small items and bracelets were placed behind it. Suddenly, the lady asked, “How many items have you put in your pocket?” At first, I didn’t even understand what she meant, so I asked her to repeat it. She said again, “I think you have put some items in your pocket.” For a few seconds, I was speechless — shocked by such an insulting and humiliating accusation. Me: Why do you think that? Shopkeeper: You were looking at the items behind the monitor — out of my direct view. Me: Yes, I was checking the bracelets. But why would you accuse me of stealing? Shopkeeper: I can’t see those items from my counter. Me: That’s because you placed them there yourself. It’s not my fault that you can’t see them — and that’s no reason to accuse me of shop lifting. The conversation went on for a few more minutes and, as you can imagine, it was not pleasant. The shopkeeper insisted that I should empty my jeans and jacket pockets and show her all my belongings. Despite feeling angry and deeply insulted, I stayed calm and took out everything from my pockets — car keys, coins, lighter, wallet, wristwatch, Vaseline, etc. She checked everything carefully and, of course, found nothing shop lifted. When she finished, I looked at her, expecting an apology. Instead, she said, “Since I couldn’t see what you were looking at behind the monitor, I wasn’t sure if you had put something in your pocket.” I was stunned. I told her, “Now that you’ve seen I haven’t taken anything, instead of apologizing, you’re still doubting me?” She replied, “If I can’t see all the items behind the monitor, I have every right to ask if you’ve taken something.” I even considered calling the police for harassment and false accusation, but I didn’t, as I had a few phone calls from my family. After a few more unpleasant exchanges, I left the store.
What a lovely shop — and a lovely owner. I googled it to find some Tibetan bells (which I learned are called ‘Tibetan Meditation Tingsha Cymbal Bells’). The Himalayan Creation has a wide range to choose from. I bought a pair with the purest and clearest sound and a handy woven carrying case. While speaking with the owner about what’s happening in Tibet now, — it’s kind of shocking — I became aware of just how good the store smelled and ended up buying some incense. What HC really sells is traditional Tibetan clothing and cultural artifacts. It reminded me of shops I visited in a trip to Nepal 40 years ago. HC is a nice place to browse and enter another culture, even just for a few minutes.
