What a wonderful little store! I had the pleasure of visiting Things Japanese, and it was a lovely experience. As I shopped, I chatted with the owner about my trip to Japan in the spring. She was so thoughtful and informative about Japanese culture. She made me feel very welcome and open to ask questions about various items in the shop. There are a wide variety of things to choose from, including stationary, stickers, notebooks and journals, incense and holders, ceramics, cookware and chopsticks, books, Japanese clothing, women's accessories, textiles, and much more. The prices to me seem to be comparable to buying things directly from Japan online. You have to consider shipping and customs fees as part of the final price. Bringing anything to Canada from Japan is not cheap. If you love Japan or are feeling nostalgic from your last visit, you will not leave this store empty handed!

Stopped by Things Japanese on Harbord and had such a great experience. Linda, the owner, is incredibly kind—we ended up chatting for a while, and she shared so much about Japanese culture. You can tell she’s truly passionate and knowledgeable. The shop isn’t big, but it’s full of a nice variety of authentic Japanese items—incense, kimonos, kitchenware like miso bowls, and more. Not packed with tons of stuff, but everything there feels carefully chosen and well-made. Prices aren’t cheap, but fair for the quality. Overall, it felt more like a cultural experience than just shopping. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area. The only downside is the street’s under construction and parking can be a bit tricky—but it’s a lovely little spot worth checking out.

Came here to find a matcha bowl! It was a very nice small and quaint store but had a lot of beautiful Japanese items ☺️ there was a small selection of matcha bowls but they were very beautiful and unique - handmade from Japan. I found the bowl of my dreams and very happy with it

Possibly one of the nicest stores on harbord, I had been seeking a Japanese item, not much luck on Amazon but found it here, the store actually really nice and helpful to help me decide, which was pretty nice, positive experience at the store, had to leave 5 stars

Experience a slice of Japan nestled in the heart of Toronto! Things Japanese offers a delightful array of kimonos, obis, and charming souvenirs that will captivate you. I was pleasantly surprised by the diverse selection and had an engaging conversation with the owner, who shared intriguing insights into Canadian Japanese history, albeit with some poignant moments. Don't miss out on this unique gem - it's a must-visit!

Very cute and authentic store in a great location in Harbord Village. Saori has many high quality home items, decor, kimonos, incense, origami paper, etc. Such a gem for neighbourhood.

Cute knickknacks and Japanese imported goods such as teaware, stationary, and textiles. I was not allowed to take a picture of the inside, or any of the items on sale unfortunately. Store is small, and very quiet. Probably the issue for most people will be the incredible prices for most of the items on display... incredibly high. As many of the items are not terribly exclusive, their supposed authenticity is barely a justification for what you will need to shell out for anything on display (*a single rice bowl can go for $40+). As a result, enjoyed looking around, but didn't not feel compelled to buy anything. *EDIT: the owner clarifies that a bowl goes for $6-14, with a 6pc set being $50. As I don't have any pictures of any of the products, I will assume my memory to have failed me until such a time when I can confirm this again. My impressions remain the same, as a review rated relative to the perceived value and likelihood of a return visit, or recommendation to others.

Hi Xavier, Thank you for visiting our store. Just to clarify, we don't sell any single rice bowls that are $40.00+. Our rice bowls are $5.95-$13.95 each. We have a 6 rice bowl set that sells for $49.95.
