I fully recommend the North York YMCA facility; it is clean, has a variety of equipment and classes & the staff are wonderful. Erin Smith the general manager was kind and generous in taking time to speak to us despite being busy and accommodating our Pulmonary Hypertension group and Yisel Serrano Cobas met us at the front desk & eagerly helped to guide us around and was so helpful in facilitating our 6 minute walk on the track beforehand and on the day of our walk. Several people in our group commented that this is such a great location and maintained so well. I am so grateful to Erin and Yisel for making our day possible and giving our group the space to walk together and be able to connect and socialize as well. It gave our group hope and it meant a lot to us. Thank you!!!
I wish I could give this place no stars. I do not feel safe here, and I would strongly advise against using this gym. There are far better and cheaper facilities in the area thankfully. Having lived in this community for more than a decade and visited gyms worldwide, I have found that the staff often engage in power trips and gaslighting to manipulate situations to their advantage. It's unfortunate, but I can no longer support the YMCA due to the unprofessional and inadequately trained staff members(Jay specifically)could greatly benefit from an attitude adjustment.
I can’t say enough good things about this place. Thank you to the staff and trainers for creating a welcoming, comfortable and safe community hub for all generations and ethnic backgrounds. We started here with swimming classes for our child. After trying several different places, she is flourishing and has loved all of her teachers and levels thus far. We recently signed up for a family membership and find ourselves at the ymca in the evenings. There are activities for each individual and we leave feeling physically stronger and emotionally connected. The place is starting to feel like an extension of our home! We appreciate the cleaning staff and friendly faces at reception. The gym equipment is updated, varied and plentiful. Next week, we will start our first day camp and look forward to making lasting memories.
Too many thefts. I had my belongings stolen for the second time within 6 months. They have a notice up now on the changeroom regarding the thefts. It's odd that nothing is being done since it's happening to multiple customers and that these thefts happen around the same time. In terms of offerings, there is almost nothing but ping pong, all the time, everywhere. They never split the gym into halves, so one sport takes up the entire gym regardless of the space actually required. There are very few programs for kids other than swimming and karate. So, unless they're enrolled in those, there's nothing for them to do. Child minding is done by 5pm. They have only one of every machine, so get ready to be asked "how many sets do you have left" 5-6× a workout. The energy in the weight room is typically very low, it's in a basement with no music, so the atmosphere isn't the best. Space is limited in the weightroom and getting a space in front of a mirror at 7pm is difficult. The layout of the gym is horrible with life fitness machines on the second floor, completely separate from the rest of the weight room and past another ping pong table. The staff is nice enough, but definitely do not have much of a strength and fitness background. They're there to answer general questions, sign ups, cancelations. They weren't able to assist either time my stuff was stolen other than filling out a form and apologizing, which is expected. Overall, YMCA charges way too much for what it offers and your valuables will be unsafe. I'd suggest looking at other gyms nearby for comparable pricing and better services.
Air conditioning system in this facility has been down for three weeks with no updates to members via email on timeline to fix it. Some days, the gym is unbearably hot and humid as a result.
Terrible service from this lady, Aarya Odedra. I've been taking swimming classes with my daughter for over a year, and today they're telling me she can't practice alone, when she's always been practicing alone. So why do you pay for a membership if they won't let you use the facilities?
Best aquafit program in Toronto! I’ve been with YMCA Members’ Plus for almost 30 years. The aquafit program has become my daily ritual. It’s the best way to reduce stiffness and joint pain while enjoying some camaraderie and lively music. Our instructors are so friendly and experienced: Alëna, David, Gloria, Julian, Jeet, Sam and Wendy. Thank you for helping the seniors to stay young!
