Way too hot in here to work out Small Workout room is always full making it so hot with everyone huffing and puffing Get some fans and get some air circulating instead of just putting on the heat on So gross

I'm so glad I joined this gym! ? The facilities are top-notch, and the pool is absolutely stunning! ? The staff are super friendly and always willing to lend a hand, making me feel right at home. The cleanliness of the gym is also impressive - it's always spotless! ? The environment is super motivating, with a great vibe and awesome equipment. I've been loving my workouts here! ? Highly recommend giving it a shot!

In our 15 years in Canada, this was our first experience with racism — and sadly, it happened at The Steve & Sally Stavro Family YMCA on July 14th 2025 around 2pm. The front desk staffs and even the General Manager treated us differently simply because we were brown. While I was doing my cardio with my 7-yr old daughter who was standing calmly beside me, a number of YMCA staffs noticed us but did not tell us anything however, after 30-40 minutes Catherine, a front desk staff, while coaching other lady, telling us that I could not be with my well-behaved daughter in the gym area because of her age and safety concerns. Notably there was no sign or instruction posted visibly anywhere in the facility about these rules and restrictions while we saw some other kids using equipments unsupervised. When I tried to clarify the rule, another front desk staff, Jordon, rebuked my child in a harsh tone for scribbling on a touch pad. That behaviour was shocking to me and my daughter was clearly embarrassed. When I confronted her about this ridiculous behaviour with a kid, she did not care to apologize rather asserted that she was right. Upset, we wanted to see higher authority regarding this matter as we wanted to launch an official complaint. While we were waiting for the General Manager to come, another staff member named Cooper talked to us defending Jordan’s behaviour without knowing the full situation. His behavior was rude and aggressive too. However, to our shock, GM brought in the same Cooper into the room while discussing the matter with us. We were not at all comfortable speaking in front of him as he already showed a biased action, but were told we had no choice as a GM apparently can’t speak alone with her customer without an employee being present in the room (sounds funny and ridiculous, eh) In the meeting room, while I was describing incidents, I was in tears for the unwelcoming vibe altogether and the ongoing humiliation. Nobody cared to offer even a single tissue out of courtesy (and they talk about good customer experience!!!). Cold, corporate language along with an offer of a full refund (we never asked for a refund, even did not mention about it in our discussion), clearly signalled that we weren’t welcome. In stead of offering refund and attributing the issue only to employee training , I would rather highly appreciate GM’s action, if we saw empathy, compassion and genuine effort to better customer experience. In stead we heard lame excuses like, the center was relatively new and also overwhelmed with 14k users, so sometimes employees do wrong things and need to be coached. The physical signs and instructions related to facility rules and restrictions were also not put in place yet, rather the center recommends customers to check them digitally. Is this what you expect from a GM, who was dealing with an upsetting customer? It broke my heart that my daughter had to witness this and now has to learn the word racism. The whole experience ruined our day, our spirit and mood to go to YMCA. Pls understand that people don’t care about refund, rather we appreciate good experience, value getting valued, respect being respected and love being treated equally and fairly. Diversity and inclusivity do not come from written corporate policies, but reflect from human-to-human interactions and camaraderie. We will never go back and cannot recommend this YMCA center to anyone who values respect and inclusivity.

This is by far the worst YMCA Gym, On a regular morning I went to exercise but the lady’s on the front counter the young one and Older one working in the morning Racially profiled me and demanded to see my account and then when I confronted them, they said I had a toon and told me the doors weren’t working, even tho I seeing people going through the same door. When I pointed how about the once the came after me she then called out after from going down the stairs. What a wackos. I canceled my membership, the same day… LA Fitness just 5 min away is by far better and don’t care what you look like.

As I have tried for msny months, I try this .... I was told by one of the lifeguards that management doesn't care." Over many months, I have asked that the swim lane signage to indicate rest to right and turn around to left as it is at the Central Y otherwise one butt heads the oncoming swimmer if you turn around on the right from the direction from which you came. 8 oct 2025 again, same issue. two people resting in opposite corners at end of lane with one sprawled out .. ONLY option was to kick him as you did your turn and push off the wall. Not what one wants to do ... but seriously where is the management? UPDATE 2 MAY 2025 ADDING A PHOTO FROM DOWNTOWN Y THAT GOT THE SIGNAGE CORRECT!

The calibre of classes and fitness instructors are very hit and miss. There are a couple of really good instructors at this YMCA but they seem to prefer doing administrative tasks than instructing and leaving classes to volunteers who are well-intentioned but not seasoned, suitable or well trained. I have to ask myself why I am paying $69 a month when I can go to another gym in the area (Answer: because there are basically none ) and get excellent instruction and classes where I don't have to fret about booking a class and not getting in !. Yes the facility is nice but they fall very short of provisioning excellent, reliable classes and instructors. Update November 2025: memberships have skyrocketed ( I consistently hear sales reps at the front counter unabashedly sell the Y classes and programs knowing full well that there are humungous scheduling and provisioning problems)and as a result there are too many members for the facility and the capacity of classes/programs such that getting into a class ( you are required to register online, invariably without success and constantly having to monitor your phone to see if a spot pops up only to see that a split second later it has been snapped by some other 10,000th member) is fraught with incredible difficulty. Why don't they cap memberships to be fair to the existing members. The 'Y' claims to be community focused but the lure of money speaks more loudly.

I love it the staff and people are all amazing so happy there open Ive been going 3 years now still amazing for the beach thank you everyone at the YMCA
