I really like this gym for what I need it for. I have read other people's comments, and can totally see their points, but it is good for cardio workouts, there is women-only hours in Studio 1 which I use instead of the main gym. I haven't tried classes yet, but looking to check it out. I have been a member for a year, and it is good value for me in comparison to other gym memberships. Also, everyone (staff and other members) are really friendly. I recommend it.

I really like this place, however there are fewer machines after covid, and there was a cafeteria but not anymore. Still, they offered classes, and they have lots of cardio machines. Also, the spaces to stretch are fewer

I am one of those bunch of people who believed that to get enrolled to this location would be a great experience but, ouch!!! wrong!!! Effectively, it offers a great number of different activities to its members but the problem is that it’s “impossible” to enjoy them as most of the time it’s super busy. So, in the end of the day you’ll decide to cancel your membership and look for a different place where you can have a decent access to the offered equipment and services. Other than that, many members have no manners and don’t know how to behave when there are more people around trying to work out or relax, which makes of your stay at the facilities a hard time. Moral lesson: “pay cheap, get ripped off yourself”.

Hands down the worst gym in Toronto. There is not enough signs directing you on where to go within the facilities. I’ve Been locked Into stairways on three different occasions, and when I went to speak to staff about it, they brushed me off, as though my complaint did not literally leave me, walked in a stairwell. They are by far these rudest staff that I’ve ever had to deal with and the last interaction that I had in that space with their staff left me crying. They should feel ashamed of themselves, but I doubt that they’ll feel anything. Also, why do the elevators barely work?

ATTENTION YMCA THERE IS A CRAZY YOUNG MAN WHO IS GOING TO SLEEP INSIDE THE STEAM SAUNA THIS HAPPENS VERY EARLY EVERY DAY SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO STAY STANDING BECAUSE HE DOESN'T GET UP AND WHEN THE SAUNA WAS HOT HE OPENS THE DOORS AT ANY TIME HE IS SNORING INSIDE THE STEAM SAUNA THIS HAPPENS EVERY DAY IT'S TIME TO DO SOMETHING

* Updating this review from 2 years ago as it's definitely improved somewhat, and there are now more classes. **It would be amazing to be able to work out on an elliptical or stair climber and not be forced to stare at a screen! Upstairs machines are positioned in front of windows with a (potentially) excellent view of the city. Even with the TV turned off, you have to stare at a blank screen. And just in case that's not enough screen, there are additional screens on the wall. If I wanted to see screens in every direction, I would go to a sports bar. CAPACITY ISSUES AT PEAK TIMES: They need to cap the number of members admitted when the place is clearly at capacity! Could they not use a counter?! Why am I scanning my card? Having staff at the front *actually doing something* would be a start. (Please please also early-retire that one guy who is SO rude, actively unpleasant and a total misogynist. Everyone knows who I mean) Also, volunteers shouldn't be up at the front when they can't answer questions, and aren't able to address concerns. It adds 5 minutes to any interaction: I DREAD having to talk to the front desk! (Previous review: I've been going since 2010, and used to love it — but the “welcoming” of members post-lockdown is lacking. So few quality classes, disinterested staff. Such a bummer because it used to be really vibrant! There's a pervasive air of neglect hanging over the whole place.)

edit: As suggested in the reply I have sent another email to membership services. It is always an automated reply. As mentioned in my initial post, I have been reaching out to this email and trying the phone lines for years. Still attempting to reach an actual person. 3 years ago I had $400 total worth of monthly charges billed to me and have tried in vain for years to reach anyone who can refund this. The issue began at this location and the only way I finally got my membership cancelled once and for all was to switch to the Cherry St location and have them cancel it. YMCA central doesn't answer their phones or reply to emails. I've tried talking to desk staff at individual locations and no one can connect me with someone who can look into this. As someone who was on disability having a subsidized gym fee was the only way I could afford it, and I was month after month billed the most expensive fee, and after I cancelled my member continued to get billed. I have track records for it all. I'm posting about this publicly everywhere I can now because it's my last idea for how to get in contact with someone who can deal with this.
