Gary is an incredible hairstylist. He is an expert at what he does and he does his job with passion! I have not had my hair cut by Gary for some time, now, as I have stopped working close by, but, I do miss his cuts and all the wild stories of the interesting life he's lived. In addition to the wonderful cuts, his updos are great, also. Wish I was still in the neighborhood. Miss you, Gary!

Gary is a wonderful stylist. He listens, he cares, he's professional, and we walked out looking better than when we walked in. Gary cut my Dad's hair, he cut my hair when I was a kid, and now he's cut my son's hair. This was the first haircut my son has ever had in which he has enjoyed the experience and the result. He's happy, I'm happy, and we all love Gary.

If I had to pick one word to describe Gary it's "Amazing". From the moment you arrive he makes you feel at home. Weather he is telling you stories from his past or giving you hair tips, travel advice or just lending an ear to you're daily issues he is one of a kind Gary is beyond talented with those scissors. You will leave the salon feeling anew. Thanks Gary for blessing me with your magic for the past 8 years.

I was introduced to Gary whilst living in Toronto 8 years ago. He is a cut above any other hair stylist I have visited both prior and since, on both sides of the Atlantic (Canada and UK). A true professional with a great personality, you feel like a new person after a visit to Gary. Unlike other stylists, he listens, makes suggestions based on years of experience / your hair type, and always does an exemplary job. As a perfectionist I have never been able to fault him!.... A true gent with a wonderful sense of humour, all I can say is give Mr Chowen's coiffure skills a try and you will never look back...only forward with a new do!.

Several years ago, my wife was looking for a quality hairdresser to take the place of her locally prominent stylist, who had become less and less available, while at the same time, more and more expensive, over the 20 years since she had first met him when he was just starting out. She read a Star article that mentioned Gary Chowen, and she not only impressed with his famous clientele, but probably was struck more by the fact that he was a Yorkville stylist offering practical hair tips, and apparently charging very reasonable rates. Although she was a bit skeptical that this was “too good to be true,” she needed a new expert to rely on and decided to set up an appointment. With his wry sense of humour and his experience with the glitterati in LA/Hollywood, Gary would probably question the existence of a “happily ever after,” but not only did this work out exactly as hoped for my wife, but over the next year, Gary became the hair stylist for our whole family, which includes a teenage son and daughter. In an age where true craftsmanship is disappearing, Gary is a throwback: he doesn’t simply pull out an electric clip and ask which “number” of hair blade you want applied; he actually cuts your hair, with real scissors, and takes his time to do it right. The result is a quality cut that looks great not just on the day that you leave the salon, but for weeks after, even when you are doing your own daily styling. Not only that, but the cost of his services compare favourably to any other decent option, and are at least as reasonable as any of those trying-to-hard-to-be-fancy places at any of the upscale malls. But don’t get me wrong – you will still enjoy an upscale experience in a Yorkville location, and will have the benefit of many of Gary’s entertaining anecdotes from a very interesting life lived. Just don’t get him too booked up – there are four of us waiting in line every 6 weeks or so!

I have been going to Gary for years and have always found him to be prompt, totally professional yet upbeat and fun. I get many compliments on my hair--which is totally due to Gary's skill in cutting hair, since my hair is thin and I am hopeless with styling. I can't imagine going anywhere else! -- nor can my husband! April Boyington Wall

I knew Gary from before he was making me look good. In my books, he's a great guy first - and a stellar hair dresser a close second. Not to diminish his craft, he's just a really really nice guy. The stories of his travels and life alone make any time you spend with him absolutely worth it - whether just for a trim, or the whole wedding treatment - time will fly. A++
