Food was yummy but I really, passionately hated the online table order system. My phone wouldn't scan the code at first then it malfunctioned because it was -10 outside, so I lost the order page and couldn't order more. I was frustrated with how basic interactions like verbal ordering have become defunct and it made for an unpleasant start to the meal. You can't order via word of mouth -- I found this a massive turn off. My friend had to order for me -- how silly is this? Would not go back based on lack of tangible menus. I'm not a robot.❌️❌️❌️? Also, it should be noted that their advertisement says all-you-can eat hot pot, but the price does not include the broth which is an additional 7-10 dollars. That was misleading. They need to clarify this on their signage. It's the basis for hot pot, thus you would think it would be included. This place just felt weirdly complicated.
The food was great, but the service really missed the mark. We had to ask for the broth twice, and they still managed to forget one of our desserts. On top of that, the staff kept reminding us that we only had 2 hours for AYCE, which made the whole experience feel rushed and uncomfortable. Overall, not worth it — I wouldn’t go again.
The food was good and on par with other hot pot restaurants, but the service really missed the mark. We went on a Wednesday as a group of six, and the restaurant was nearly empty, yet our server was quite rude and made us feel unwelcome. She told us we were being loud and reminded us of the 2-hour dining limit, even though there was no one waiting. It honestly felt like she didn’t want to be there. The temperature inside was also inconsistent — it kept switching from uncomfortably hot to suddenly cold, which made the experience less enjoyable. Just a heads-up: there’s a 5% discount for paying cash (but only if it’s on one bill), and a 15% automatic gratuity added for groups of six. Overall, food was decent, but the experience could be much better with friendlier service and a more comfortable atmosphere. Better hot pot places around Chinatown!
Follow @bredgyeats for more food posts! Pretty good AYCE hotpot, decent quality ingredients. Here are some of my preferences. ✅ : Crystal Homemade Beef, Spicy Hand Cut Beef (velveted beef with a touch of spice), Spicy Bull Frog Leg (smooth, tender texture and unique fishy umami), Beef Tongue (super tender), Lamb Balls (juicy, distinct lamb gameness), Corn (crisp, juicy, summer-like sweetness), Baby Cuttlefish (crisp, not too chewy and clean taste), Fish Roe Shrimp Paste, Cuttlefish Paste ?: Sliced Chicken, Beef Belly, Sliced Beef, Sliced NZ Lamb, Shrimp, Mussel, Sole Fish Fillet, Fish Ball, Beef Ball, Lobster Ball, Black Fungus, Enoki, King Oyster Mushrooms, Watercress, Lettuce, Cabbage, Crown Daisy, Winter Melon, Lotus Root, Cucumber, Deep Fried Pork Slices (mostly batter, but has a strong porky umami), Fried Buns (served with condensed milk) ❌ : Thousand-Layer Tripe (shrinks and very chewy)
Plenty of soup base option and the all you can eat was at an affordable price. Seating was comfortable. Service was excellent and accommodating to our needs. However there was once wher3 the order didn't go through so we had to place the order again
I tried hot pot combo for the first time yesterday, and the food and service were great – they even explained everything and served tea. But, I'm a germaphobe, and there was a waitress was cutting her nails near the cashier while I was eating, which was gross. I kept picturing her nails will going in my soup! Luckily, another waiter stopped her. It was a bummer, but the food was good, so I'll probably go back sometime.
EDIT: Visited again after 1 year. Quality and service have gone down a bit, which I can’t justify the price for no more. With increasing store locations of malatang, this place is not so appealing if I want hot broth. Ingredients/food is very fresh. Friendly and patient staff. Not too busy, good vibes. Not too expensive for AYCE hotpot. Will visit again :)
