Javier is an energetic teacher, I enjoyed the 2 courses that I have done so far. The courses are conversation based so they are pretty practical. I will come back after after a short break.

I wasn't sure what I was signing up when I joined Barlovento. At the time, I only knew the same 2-3 things that everybody know simply because at one point in our life, we all went south of the border for holidays. With the help of Javier and his colleague, I was able to learn some basic Spanish grammar and I have grown my vocabulary a lot. This enabled me to be able to have a basic conversation that doesn't limit itself to ask for a beer or for the washroom. The teachers are nice and friendly. Just keep in mind that learning a language and improving, requires a lot of self-practice as well. If you don't do it, don't expect to learn and advance much. In the limited time of the classes, Javier managed to teach me everything I needed to carry a basic conversation without getting stuck. I would highly recommend Javier and his team if you decide to finally take leap of faith and start learning a beautiful language like Spanish is.
I recently began my Spanish language journey in March 2023 at the Barlovento School, and I can't express how impressed I am with my experience so far. From knowing absolutely nothing, I can now understand and speak basic Spanish sentences. If you are a beginner like me or even someone with prior knowledge, I highly recommend. They provide a fun and effective learning environment with knowledgeable, friendly, and patient instructors who genuinely care about your progress.
Javier is a great teacher. Patient. Fun and engaging. He adjusted to my learning style and built up my confidence in only ten sessions. I started with zero ability and in five weeks became comfortable with basic phrases and things like asking for and giving directions.
The team was insightful, knowledgeable & fun. Enjoyed the structure & format of the course material. Learnt more in one course than a year on language apps. Highly recommended & will be joining the next session soon. Thank you SpanishTO team for an amazing journey into learning spanish practically.
It was the community location that first attracted us. Both over sixty, we did not want to feel back in regular school. But the atmosphere was so welcoming and friendly, that learning seemed easy. We went to northern Costa Rica after our beginners’ class. Being able to speak Spanish made a noticeable difference. We were able to understand guides and ask questions since most locals have limited English. They appreciated our efforts and were always respectful and instructive. And we felt like visitors in their home rather than tourists. Thank you, Monica! You were a great teacher for two anxious beginners. Your availability to answer questions and the sense that all our mistakes were chances to learn, made a difference.
