I have been Peter's piano student for over 5 years now, and he is by far the best teacher I've had. I recently was able to complete my ARCT in piano performance and couldn't have done it without Peter's motivation, feedback, and guidance that let me find my musicality and style as a pianist. Further, I've taken all RCM theory courses with Peter and Lynn, and have always done well. Definitely would recommend :)
I've taken all my theory courses in Ware Academy of Music for four years from Lv8 to ARCT, and most of the theory marks are 90+. What I like most about their textbooks is they provide a clear learning and homework schedule that I can track my process every week. It's well designed from the first week of the session all the way to the week before the exam including final review and mock exam. All key points in each chapter are highlighted, and lots of after-lesson practice sheets too. I've experienced both in-person small group lessons and online lessons (due to the covid), both ways are interactive and efficient. Thanks to my theory teachers Peter, Lynn, Paul and David, they always marked and gave feedbacks to my weekly tests/essays patiently. Especially thanks to my piano teacher Jewele, she made every lesson enjoyable, gave me lots of confidence and technical improvements, and got me more involved in music. I can't imagine a better music school than Ware. The experience of studying here will be my precious memory.
I learnt harmony and history both 9,10 there and i did not like their method. The specialized books that they personally made were way too complicated than the RCM ones. They make students memorize EVERYTHING rather than teaching them concepts with weekly tests. Personally, i would rather learn than memorize so i rate this place a 1 but if u think otherwise, i respect
Thank you Lynn for taking my daughter Alexis to new heights of being the recipient of the RCM National Gold Medal for Classical Guitar for Level 1 in 2021. This milestone has given Alexis an increased sense of enthusiasm to pursue her musical abilities further. Lynn Ware has been teaching Alexis for four years and has helped Alexis reach her potential to its fullest in which Alexis has scored 90 percent and above at Music festivals and in all her RCM guitar exams. Lynn has been instrumental in Alexis’ abilities to succeed right from Guitar basics at age 6, through to RCM Preparatory, levels 1 and 2. Apart from teaching Alexis to play this instrument, Lynn has inculcated in Alexis a love for the guitar and an appreciation for the arts. She is patient with Alexis, she helps her achieve her musical goals and she encourages her in all her strides, be it exams, competitions or simply to appreciate the language of music. Alexis has become versatile in playing the guitar and is now beginning to play more, practice more and think in bigger and better ways to accomplish the goals of a budding artist. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Lynn Ware and Ware Academy for being a source of inspiration on this musical journey with Alexis.
Lynn is my daughter L8 Theory teacher. Since we do not live in Toronto. So my daughter’s theory classes are all online. Lynn is a very good theory teacher, She has a very good and unique teaching method, so that my daughter can easily understand music theory. When encountering topics that are difficult for my daughter to understand, she always explained it step by step patiently until she understood it. My daughter had one-hour classes once a week. After each class, she would send my daughter electronic tests on the topic of this week. Every time my daughter finished the tests and sent it to Lynn, she would patiently correct it and find out my daughter's mistakes. And the L5-L8 Music Theory textbook written by Peter is a super useful music theory textbook. The book covers all the theories that need to be learned. There are also exercises. After completing the exercises in the book, you can evaluate the effect of each topic. My daughter completed the L8 theory online exam last week. She is very satisfied with her results. Thank you Lynn for being patient with my daughter in class for a few months. Lynn is an excellent music theory teacher. I highly recommend her.
I have taken theory classes with Ware Academy from level 8 to level 10 (theory and history) and It is one of the best theory schools! To focus on the theory/harmony classes: the instructor (Peter Ware) uses plenty of analogies and frequently makes connections between everyday life and music theory. It enhances my understanding of abstract concepts! The mock exams are marked rigorously with extensive feedbacks and I feel well prepared on examination day! To focus on the History classes: the instructor (Lynn Ware) covers all the required topics extensively. Unlike other theory schools, she added "Thematic identification practices" and "essay preparation". The thematic identification practices are extremely helpful for the online history examinations. They train my ears to easily recognize the presented musical themes during examinations. The essay preparation was a combinations of essay assignments, essay structure studies and studying exemplar essays. Through this process, I learned to maximize the efficiency of my writings and became well prepared for the short and long essays that will occur on the exam. Just to clarify some misunderstandings that I have read in other comments, these classes do require at least 2 hours of studying per class to maximize its benefits. I suspect that the people who cannot keep up are mostly not studying enough. Also, if anyone wants to go to the washroom or take a quick break, they can simply ask the instructors and they will gladly allow you to do so.
I have studied in this school for more than a year, and it really helps me a lot. I like Peter and Lynn's teaching styles. When I asked questions after the class, they all replied me very quickly and gives me useful feedbacks. The teachers are diligent in every classes. From afraid to have harmony and history classes at the beginning to enjoying to have classes now, the teachers has helped me a lot. I passed all the exams and I'm satisfied with the results.
