wanted to say thank you to Gary Mazin and his team for the exemplary effort on my mothers case. She was hit by a car crossing the street. This accident had a huge impact on her mental, emotional and physical life. Gary and his team were very attentive and always kept us informed of any situation. They worked diligently and passionately on her case. My mom received full compensation for the accident, which she's very grateful for, as for the insurance company was offering her way less for the injuries sustained. Called and all I heard was a bunch of chatter for over a minute, only to be hung up on. Very unprofessional, not to mention a terrible first impression. I wouldn't recommend.
Read on to understand why, but stop searching for an attorney right now — Gary’s firm is the only one you want to deal with. We did an exhaustive search for attorneys after mom‘s motor vehicle accident, and with the exception of Gary, found it to be a very unsavoury experience. I do not consider Gary to be a personal injury attorney — I believe he is an activist. If you are lucky enough to get his support (it needs to be a significant case), then you will never regret signing up with him. Our mother was run over by an SUV while walking. The process of trying to get proper care from our insurance provider was nothing less then a nightmare. Despite catastrophic injuries, including a catastrophic brain injury, shattered jaw and teeth, a fractured skull, many broken bones and vertebrae, loss of balance, mobility, memory smell and significant loss of concentration, cognition it took three years for the insurance company to agree to a catastrophic designation, and provide the proper care. Note - 3 years in insurance settlement land is light speed — the game is to have it settle in less then 10! Where it not for Gary, I believe it never would have resolved until after mom was dead. That is because this is what auto insurance companies actually want. In our case, the insurance companies occupational therapist started by recommending very dangerous activities for a woman in moms state - like ‘try climbing up and down (very steep) stairs a lot to try and relearn how to balance.’ They not only hoped mom would die, their OT was trying to make it happen! This is because Insurance companies pay 1 cent on the dollar if the injured party dies, if they pay anything at all. If they can’t delay long enough for you to die, at least they can delay payment for many years. Note that the law doesn’t even permit a catastrophic designation in less than a year, and without that, you max out at ~$60k of support. Gary was able to settle moms case for more than the policy limit, and was also able to secure a judgement in a tort case. Gary’s win rate is stunning, because he knows exactly how to beat the insurance companies at their abhorrent game. Much more importantly, he is as indignant at the injustice of Canada’s laws governing insurance companies as you will be when you realize how heavily they are stacked in their favour. While we waited for the support mom so desperately needed, Gary found many creative ways to get as much of mom’s needs looked after as possible. I was left without any doubt that he was very personally invested in her health and mental well-being. As for fees, dispersement, and integrity in the financial accounting associated with the work he did for us, this was beyond reproach. This is a major differentiation for Gary - the personal injury landscape is chock a block full of stories of bogus accounting that sees the victims share of the settlement shrink dramatically. You may be shocked at the standard % taken in the industry (1/3rd - no lawyer is less). But there are many scams that can leave you with 1/2 or less. We paid Gary exactly what we knew we would pay for his services, and Gary earned every penny of it —along with his entire team who we will always be immensely grateful to. This includes teams he engaged for case management (Jean Taylor at key rehab is a one of the finest people I know), medical assessment, therapeutic treatments, personal support workers ― so many things that the family could never possibly have juggled without the help that Garys team brought to bear. Not to mention - until there is a settlement, he pays all the legal fees. Imagine the risk he takes with a team of lawyers clocking huge hours for years. If he doesn’t win for you, he looses all of that money. I’ll finish where I started. Gary and his team are the best. If you can get them to take your case you are very lucky indeed.
