Delicious foul / ful with eggs and veggie topping (bit of cheese) for around $15. Bread on the side. Enjoyed it as breakfast. Accommodating owner serving. Will be back.
I had the Ful with bread for breakfast. It was really flavorful. Nice restaurant and customer service was hospitable. I highly recommend for those seeking authentic dishes. Great prices and quality.
Was only popping in because I was lost. Told myself it’s not bad. It’s (an Ethiopian place) have never felt more at home. People were kind, didn’t speak much English at all, but relaxing. Had a double vodka. Place was clean. Very nice and not down my throat only to help. Thank you!
I’ll never go back. So much headache for simple cup of coffee. 1) I walked in, said hello, and asked for a black coffee. The server acted like I ordered something alien and made me read the drinks menu where I learned you need to say “Canadian Coffee” to get regular coffee. 2) He accidentally poured a bunch of sugar in my coffee, like 3-4 portion and quickly put the lid on and acted like it didn’t happen. I didn’t argue or ask for something else cause I just wanted to get out of there. 3) The menu has “Canadian Coffee” listed as $2.50, the server punched $3 into card reader. I asked about the price change and he said “taxes”. Last I checked $2.50 + %13 is $2.83, so I’m not sure what happened there. I was then prompted for a tip on top of that, where he then leaned in and stared directly at the machine to see how much I tipped. 4) I took a sip as soon as I stepped out the door… The coffee was cold from the first sip. I have never had such a bad/low quality experience getting a simple cup of coffee. I will be telling friends about my experience.
While the food looks good and the restaurant itself has had a facelift they were unfortunately unable to fix the bad attitudes of rude staff that work here. This location is disruptive, with cars parking in front of every other business beside them, noisy and disrespectful to neighbors, they are open until 12am (weird for a café) and blast music like it's a night club or bar until at least midnight if not later - this happens on week nights and Sundays, not just Fridays or Saturdays. I called on a Tuesday at 11:50pm because they were hammering in their restaurant and I could hear them through the walls in this old building. When I complained to the person who picked up the phone, they hung up on me with no response, no apology, and kept hammering. I know it's hard out there for small businesses and I understand sometimes it's hard to tell how loud you are, but when I call and ask to have the music turned down, or the hammering to stop, and there's no response and zero regard for others I have to speak up. With so many coffee and lunch options just around the corner along the Danforth, I recommend that you support a different restaurant where they respect their neighbors.
I will NEVER go back here again. I would buy coffee and treats and stop and say hi to the elders during the summer have a little chat before my evening classes. The woman in that place is horrible and all about money no human soul whatsoever. My son asked to use her washroom ...we jumped off the Greenwood station rushing to evening classes. I had been waiting outside unaware she told him if he had no money he had to leave as the washroom were for paying customers only. Everybody knows this...but this is not always a rule etched in STONE and her business wouldn't have been affected for having a heart . Had it been her we would have done the same. I even tried calling her and she hung up on me... she refused to answer why 1 time exception was denied and telling a child he needed money to use the washroom. Again I fully appreciate business how it runs...but we are humans here. We in our indigenous culture live by the laws of human spirit NOT by GREED and a MEAN spirit. What a turn off . I will NEVER return to Maple Cafe. Remember woman when reading this review...there WILL be a time you will require the humble soul of another and I swear by the grace of the universe you will remember what you did. Have a bliss day.
Latte was so bad I threw it out. Tasted burnt or the machine wasn’t clean or something. Decor is old and unkempt. Service is nothing to write home about.
