Overpaid $170 cash for off rims. Did not have to remove wheels from vehicle or remove old tires. Dropped off rims and tires separately to do at their leisure. Rims are 16s and tires have a 60 sidewall, very easy to mount and balance, probably takes 20 minutes max. Charged for valve stems which is a first for me. To be fair I guess some places always replace valve stems when doing off rims for free and some don’t; it boils down to how much they care and how much they want to pinch pennies. When picking up, my tires were not bagged even though I dropped them off with bags. Like I said earlier, care and penny pinching. Price probably reflects a regular off rim service off a vehicle? I feel it should be adjusted depending on the situation just like how different cars have different book times for different jobs. For my situation, the book time should’ve been between 0.5-1.2hrs. 1.2hrs is generous as typically you charge less for a smaller rim size (16”). So assuming that, the cost of $160 ($170 with valve stems) is kind of crazy. That’s a shop rate of $320/hr (0.5hrs) or $133/hr (1.2hrs)!!! I would say a fair book time is 0.7hrs which is still $228/hr!!! I needed them done anyway so I just ate the cost which admit is my fault for slacking on my winter tire swap. I would go somewhere else with more competitive pricing if you’re doing something similar. This review doesn’t account for the quality of the mount and balance. My rims are beaters anyway so I didn’t really look and hopefully the balance will be good when I put them on and start driving on them. Update: Had to go back to get two tires flipped; they did it so no problems there. Shop claimed they didn’t see directions on the tire so they took creative liberties on how to mount them. The tires had marks that I showed them, no response. Had previously asked to use the hammer on weights for my balance. Person at the front claimed the rim lip was too small for them even though I had taken off the hammer on weights at home myself. Decided to let it be as if it were an issue later on I could just come back and get it fixed like my tires. When I attempted to put my wheels on a few days later I noticed the wheel weights they used would not clear my brake caliper. I went back hoping to get my hammer on weights installed as I had previously wanted or replace the stick on weights with lower profile ones. There are even tire balancing machines that allow you to place weights in the middle of the barrel instead of the inside or outside parts. Shop claimed they could not do any of these three solutions. What kind of shop charges this much for subpar service and lack of shop equipment and supplies that most shops have? Tire is in the name and they couldn’t get it done right. All my complaints were met with the response of “I didn’t give instructions” when I had returned. There’s no instructions needed, this and oil changes are the most basic of the basics. All this and a $170 CASH bill and I still have to get my tires balanced elsewhere.
