La Rocca makes the best strawberry shortcake in the city, hands down! Fresh, light and made with real cream. They also offer a variety of other delicious cakes and pastries along with some gluten-free options as well.
I just bought the worst cake of my life. It was all cream—90% low-quality, extremely sweet cream that was so sugary a tiny bit of it could sweeten a whole liter of milk! And there was a very, very thin layer of cake, which was also so sweet it was impossible to eat. Why do yoou put so much sugar and syrup in a cake!? Actually, this wasn’t even a cake—it was all cream. Waste of money.
A couple of months ago I ordered a birthday cake and when I went to pick it up I felt like getting one dark chocolate mousse tart, which was pretty good. However the birthday cake was extremely sweet and nothing was special about it. Also, it was quite expensive considering the size of the cake and compared to other places.
I’ve being buying cakes from La Rocca(midtown on Yonge)for years with their cakes being fine and their service amenable. Having said that, I just had probably one of the worst experiences ever. I had just bought a cake and shortly after leaving their shop wished I had bought a different one. Doubtful they would allow me to exchange, I decided to call them anyways and the lady on the phone said it would be okay if I brought it in today, but not the next day. I thought: Absolutely reasonable! So I decided to rush there in the 10 minutes before they closed. In inclement, snowy weather no less.. Fast forward 10 minutes and to my surprise, I was advised they couldn’t exchange the cake any more. I asked her why the sudden change and first she proceeded to say she didn’t think I would arrive before closing(nonsensical) and then it was, “I was mistaken.” I asked to speak to the manager and the girl directed me to someone who told me the manager wasn’t around but told me an exchange isn’t possible. After hearing so many dizzying excuses, one begins to wonder if “something is rotten in the state of Denmark” My issue is NOT with their policy, but their painfully poor method of communication, anemic problem solving and questionable honesty in telling me one thing and doing the exact opposite. Integrity Matters! Moreover, this unnecessarily causes confusion and a waste of time for all parties. There were many opportunities for them to resolve this in an equitable and creative fashion, but they chose to stonewall. Rendering an abysmal customer experience. Extremely disappointed. They do have good cakes, but if customer service and honesty are things you hold in high regard, look elsewhere. I take no pleasure in giving a local business I support bad reviews, but one must speak truth to ‘bad cakes’ and horrendous service. FYI: minus the fancy branded box and fake smiles, Ironically their cakes are 5-10$ cheaper at Metro?…:meaningful when cakes are 30, 40, 50$!!!
I’ve always loved La Rocca cakes from Metro grocery store, so discovering the actual bakery was great . I ordered a beautiful layer cake for a wedding, and it was a hit—everyone was happy and full of compliments. I love their fresh cupcakes & lattes
Everything tastes impeccable at this place! The coffee as well! I won’t even mention the cakes… absolutely perfect! My favourite place in Toronto! All of your employees are very polite! Specially Mariah who is always so kind and professional
