Ten stars would not be enough for this place. I only knew mozzarella and cheddar before, but the owner of Chris's Cheesemongers opened a whole new world of cheese for my mom and me. He let us sample several kinds from dozens on display, and the rosemary cheese was absolutely amazing. Honestly, the one he gave us after that had an even deeper, more complex flavour, but I can't remember its name. The owner was incredibly kind and explained everything about the cheeses in great detail. I really didn't expect such thoughtful and passionate service, and I'm so grateful for it. The staff were also very friendly, and I could tell this place is a bit of a local landmark people walking by kept stopping to take photos of the shop. I'm definitely coming back next time with my husband!
Always taste before the purchase . Quality varies (usually it's quite good) and of you don't like something they will not change the block of cheese. Also can be a bit pricey - always ask about the price
Last Friday, I stopped in while wandering the city. A gentleman helped me pick out some different cheeses for me to eat at hotel. He was very knowledgeable and suited them to crackers I already picked out. Also, since he knew I was at a hotel, he also took the time to slice all of the cheeses, since I wouldn't have a knife. Small details like that, while helping someone pretty ignorant in cheese, goes a long way
I only purchase my cheese from this shop and can’t recommend them enough. They have so many kinds available. The staff is always welcoming and friendly.
Our go-to place to buy cheese for charcuterie boards! Kenny, the owner, is so friendly, gives great recommendations and lets us sample multiple cheeses before we buy. Excellent selection of cheese too, from around Canada and Europe.
If you want to experience racism at its finest then Chris Cheese Mongers is the place to come. The second the person on the counter sees me his entire demeanour changes. There is no greeting as the 2-3 customers before me got. When I asked to pay by credit card he made a face like I was battering pebbles with him in exchange for cheese. The lady before me was given a plastic bag despite her small purchase but surprise surprise my purchases were just slapped on the counter back to me. It may appear like trivial things but these are important and such vendors need to be called out.
We were visiting Saint Lawrence Market around lunch and decided to have a picnic at Berczy Park. We had a loaf of bread already so we grabbed some cheese, some delicious Country Paté, sour pickles, olives and a sliced meat tray. All the products were well within their best before dates, and the gentleman that served us was charming. If I lived anywhere near the SLM, I'd be in to see Chris' every week.
