Mina has repaired a tear in the seat of a pair of pants for me, and did extensive alterations to a suit as well. The craftsmanship on both were excellent and I was so pleased! She was very thorough and had a good balance of giving me advice on what would be best for the alterations while also being sensitive to what I preferred with the style etc.
Do not come here for important occasions. They said my wedding reception dress would be ready at the end of June. When I came to pick it up in July it fit WORSE than when I brought it in. They never mentioned that I would have to come for several fittings in advance and kept making excuses for why the work was not finished. Avoid at all costs!!
Mina has been doing alterations for me for 2 years and for the past 1 year I have been her student and she’s teaching me to sew. She did a fantastic job on all of her alterations for me and she’s a great teacher too. Since starting with her I’ve made pillow cases, pyjamas and even a dress shirt! I’ve also been learning to alter my own clothes and fix things like zippers and holes in clothes. Her prices are also very reasonable.
I wanted my lululemon headbands to be taken in and I requested they not cut the fabric and just fold it over in case I wanted to let it out. They did not follow my instructions and cut them without asking me if I was ok with that. The stitching style they used was also really visible and messy looking and the color choice of thread also didn’t match some of them. One of them was also sewn completely inside out so the seam is now on the outside. They also never seemed to know where the headbands were and forgot to sew one of them so I had to come back. I thought this would have been an easy job but it seemed like overall attention to detail and organization were a big struggle.
Mina was nice as a person but I'll never go back. I gave her a a bridesmaid dress 4 weeks ago and it wasn't ready for the date. I wish she would have told me that she didn't have time. Two days before it was needed she called me saying that she forgot my measurement and needed me to come back in the following day. I went back and she said it would be ready the next day and I explained since the wedding was out of town and I'm leaving tomorrow that it needed to be. Then when I went to pick it up the next day in the evening it wasn't ready so I had to come back later that night. It still has major alterations needed when I tried it on again. I paid almost $300 in advance for a job that was incomplete. I now need to find someone in Ottawa to fix it probably for another $100 5 days before the wedding. Please if you need serious work done for something important I would consider another alteration shop. It's not worth the hassle. Also do not pay in full for your alterations here, just give a down payment.
My boyfriend visits Mina to have all his suits altered, and absolutely raves about how good of a job she does. He had a negative experience at a different tailor resulting in an ill-fitting suit, which he then brought to Mina and she was able to fix everything (and make it fit perfectly!) as a rush as we had a wedding to attend that weekend. We would highly recommend her for any of your alterations!
I was looking to get a simple two-layer formal dress hemmed. After another tailor quoted me an outrageous price, I called Mina and she was able to have me in for a fitting that day. She had it done when she said she would, and at a much more reasonable price. The dress now looks incredible!
