If there was a zero I would give it to them. Worst store ever, I wanted a sample paint color to test for a wall at home (those tiny paper samples) - every store they give them out for free so you can go test and come buy. They wanted to charge me ~$1 each and when I asked about the rule they were wishy washy about it. I asked who is your manager? she said I am the manager. And the dialogue went on with some really horrible behaviour from the person and led me leave the store. The attitude the customer service and wanting to charge for the stupid papers made no sense
Staff on phone not knowledgeable and disrespectful. I was trying to find a furnace air filter, the staff member wasn't aware of how the sizes work for air filters, including that the general size and actual size on product are different. First he hung up on me then I had to explain home hardwares website shows the specs for the actual size. And they he was giving sarcastic answers. Totally disrespectful and unprofessional. I'd much rather go to another store and deal with people who are knowledgeable and have some respect for their customers. Home hardware doesn't care either. Looking at reviews here, it's a pattern of staff who lack knowledge and curiosity for customers. And home hardware doesn't bother responding to reviews. They don't care, and continue to let their staff treat customers poorly. This is why there is a pattern of the same reviews
This "hardware store's" collection is extraordinary and keeps surprising me, especially for downtown Toronto. It's more like a mini Home Depot, complete with an electronics-components section that’s shockingly good. Whether it’s a single bolt, a tool, or anything electrical or plumbing-related, they always seem to have it. I was surprised to see so many negative reviews. Some come across as people griping – come on, don’t expect a store full of employees to stay open past closing so you can get a key cut. And if you’ve already returned two of the same product from a reputable brand, I’d also wonder whether the issue might be user error. It also sounds like this isn’t the place to go for mixing paint. And yes, a several people have found the staff rude. That last one makes me to scratch my head. I go here regularly with two curious and occasionally mischievous kids in tow, and the staff has always been friendly. They’ve never given me any grief about returns, even well after I bought something. Some staff seem to have different needs and a few aren’t always very helpful depending on what I need — but honestly, I appreciate that. It’s good to see a store hiring inclusively
Don’t get paint from this place. Got them to mix cc-20 for me two days ago ( it wasn’t even close to cc20) then I go back today to get more and the guy who originally mixed it wasn’t there so Cyndie is the paint person and she doesn’t know how to mix cc20 tells me to come back when the guy is there… I’ve never met a paint store that can’t mix paint. Not only was cyndie incompetent she was also getting frustrated that SHE doesn’t know how to mix a simple colour. This store is terrible. Apparently they mix colour “by eye”
Great store. One of the only places left in the city where you can pick up electronic components. Have been coming here for maybe 15 years, since they were at their last location a few doors down. The 1-star reviews? Go ahead, read them, judge for yourself: "covid was a government conspiracy, I can't breath with a mask, and they wouldn't serve me, then even the police and the paramedics ignored my pleas for attention"; "I came in 5 min before closing, the staff was busy already helping other customers, and wouldn't drop everything to serve meeee". That's right, you have to be nuts not to like this place :-). The staff is knowledgeable, they're friendly, the store's got most of what you might need. Fantastic. Wish it was open later, wish I could shop here *more*.
If you must place an order, it's best to order online at the home hardware website, you can ask customer service for assistance. If you place a special order through the 290 College Street store, the minute they collected your money , they will ignore you, make you wait a very long time before releasing your order. Susan is rude, hangs up on you and lies. The manager, Peter is nice but will not take your call (he leaves this to his employees). My next order will definitely be sent to another store for pick up.
This place is the best, they have the regular home hardware stuff but in their basement there's a section where you can find circuit boards and components, was able to find a specific capacitor /resistor to fix my old bmw. I could buy a new car and shop at home depot, but this is way better.
