This store has an amazing inventory of any and all kitchen items. Albert has a wealth of knowledge and is able to explain the merits of the items in question. The best in selection and service!
Peppermills is my favourite shop for kitchenware. With a wide variety of tools to capture the imagination of any cooking enthusiast, it offers great value on a variety of premium brands you are familiar with (e.g., Wüsthof) and some you may not be (e.g., Hakusho). The proprietor Albert is helpful and has a variety of recommendations for any cooking inspiration you may have.
I bought a stainless steel pan for a very reasonable price, and the lovely shop owner gave me great tips and a good conversation. I got great customer service and good high-quality products in this shop.
It was my first week in the city, in the neighbourhood and walking down the Yonge street. I see this shop and like what I see from the window and enter inside. I was looking for something specific and while the person incharge( not sure if they are the owners or not) was attending patiently with so much enthusiasm and politeness to other customers, I started browsing through the articles in the store. Eventually a stainless steel lid slipped off and fell, which I carefully picked up and placed back. The person incharge came to attend me shortly and that was the beginning of one of the worst ways I have ever been treated in a shop ever. They were rude, snapped when I tried describing what I needed and eventually just hit their palm strongly on the lid of a jar I was holding, startling me and just walked away to place it elsewhere. I was shocked as this was not what I expected at all, I quietly exited the shop and then found myself crying. I was so overwhelmed and in utter shock. I walked 20 steps, calmed myself down and walked back to the store. I entered and found a cup that I liked, I told the person how they were so rude to me, again finding tears in my eyes. They apologised to me and explained that they were short on staff, had a cold and I whilst I appreciated the apology, I could not help but think that there was no excuse for the way I was treated. As a newbie to the city, this experience just broke my heart. On a side note, I met many wonderful store owners in other places I visited on the street. I wish the store the best but you just lost a future customer today.
I went to Peppermills for a host gift and bought a Gurgle Pot. I knew what I wanted, but we got to chatting and he just made my experience so much better! He has a lovely store, gift wrapped my purchase and even walked me to the door. I’ll be back shopping for all occasions!
Great place to go to find an expansive selection of kitchenware if customer service does not matter to you. If you are, like most people, more likely to shop at a store that is owned by someone with a pleasant demeanor and is genuinely interested in helping you, this is not the place for you. I'm not sure the owner realizes his cold and unhelpful attitude effects people. It's unfortunate, as I believe in supporting quality independent businesses, but I'm not going back there. EDITED: The response below demonstrates how out of touch the owner is as my visit had nothing to do with room dividers or not finding what I was looking for. A very strange response. Good luck in the future.
Horrible customer service. Go to Kitchen Stuff Plus across the street. Edited to add: What happened was whoever I spoke with (older man with greying hair) was arrogant, rude, and unhelpful. You do have nice things in your store, but you'll never sell them with this attitude. That's why no one is ever in there. Added 2025: There's no way this store hasn't committed some kind of fraud to stay open past covid. CRA please look into this.
