The mango cheese bun is absolutely delicious. The owner is friendly and patient. They offer end of day deals for cash only, which is amazing. Will absolutely be back!
I walk past this store a few times a week and I've tried and enjoyed their cheese bread in the past, however, my recent experience was quite disappointing. To start, there were giant posters for a cheese bread + drink combo, but after I ordered it, I was told that the deal expired. Why would you keep the poster up if the deal is over? Not to mention, it's been over a month since the deal ended, which just shows laziness from the staff/owners to not take it down. Since the combo was expired, I decided to just get the strawberry matcha latte. I didn't have high expectations because I don't think the store specializes in drinks, and I was not impressed at all when I received the drink. Just by the colour of the matcha, I could tell it would not taste good. The strawberry that they use is also extremely artificial, like the strawberry Nesquik syrup. They also charged an extra 50 cents just for the syrup, on top of the listed price on the screen. Overall, I would only come here for the cheese breads or pastries. Avoid their drinks or ask for their recommendation --- hopefully that would save any trial and error. Almost $9 for an extremely mediocre drink is unacceptable and they should either refine their menu or decrease the pricing.
Cheese bakery hits it out of the park with another recent addition to their menus fresh baked bread, thick, sliced sandwiches, prepared quickly professionally cleanly with amazing customer service and bread that is the perfect amount of crunchy and springy that lets you know it wasn’t just cooked that morning it was cooked a few hours ago at most. and I’m usually fairly tough on places that make a sandwich, but this is the perfect sandwich made to be enjoyed again and again.
Customers are clearly not welcome here—the cashier had an incredibly rude and dismissive attitude. There’s no inventory displayed outside, so you have to ask what’s available. When I asked, “What do you have?”, the girl behind the counter reluctantly replied, “Original flavour, taro flavour.” I tried to clarify what kind of desserts she meant, and she snapped, “I just told you,” even though she hadn’t explained anything at all. It’s no surprise this place gets so little foot traffic. I’ve ordered delivery from here a few times before, but after this experience, I will never buy anything from this bakery again.
ended up getting the chocolate cheese bun quarter and it was so delicious. perfect if you love a cheesecake that has a heavier cream cheese taste. not overtly sweet and so rich/fluffy, the bread is dense and soft like brioche or bao. such a wonderful balance, definitely coming back <3
I LOVED this place when it was Guschelbauer. It was a must every time I was in Toronto. This time, I had mixed feelings. The chocolate bun was as good as I remembered, but the strawberry was really dry, a little burnt on the bottom and underwhelming.
Literally a slice of cheap bread injected with cheese and flavoured cream for $9. No clue how it has 4 stars Better choices in the city from Hattendo ($4 cream buns, doesn't taste amazing but at least the price reflects it), LeTAO ($8 cheesecake, heaven in a bite) or even your conventional Uncle Tetsu is better than Guschlbauer. Save your money, spend it wisely!
