I ordered from Abogida through Uber Eats. The food came in a cardboard container, not plastic, and it was leaking. The container is not safe—please use proper plastic containers that are microwave safe so we can reheat easily this was disappointing.
I was really hoping to find a new spot as I’ve eaten at every Ethiopian resto on Danforth dozens of times. I will never go back to this place. The doro wot was waaaaaaay over spiced, not in a spicy way, just in a way that made it taste acidic and overbearing. The raw kitfo was decent, as was the shiro. But everything else was mediocre. Unfortunately my stomach started to hurt and I had to go. Other than that the music was extremely loud and the place was basically empty except for some guys drinking.
A Hidden Gem! Abugida Lounge is an absolute gem! Good job, Elsa! The food is incredibly flavorful and authentic—every bite feels like a celebration of culture and tradition. The Ethiopian injera (Extra $$$) is soft and fresh, and the combination platters are perfect for sharing and trying a bit of everything. The staff is welcoming and attentive, and the atmosphere is vibrant yet relaxed—perfect for both casual dinners and nights out. My favorite is the taste of the food; it resembles homemade food, the way I like it. We tried the quanta, cornis, & meat combo multiple times and were not disappointed on any occasion; the portion sizes were generous! Highly recommend this place to anyone looking to enjoy delicious Ethiopian and Eritrean cuisine in a warm and friendly setting. We’ll definitely be back!
I tried Abugida a couple of days ago. Generally speaking it was a good experience. I ordered the veggies (3 entries) and meat (2 entries) combination called Chembelala. They all were tasty. Ethiopian restaurants never dissappointed me in terms of flavour. Why am I giving only 4 stars then? In my first bite there was a piece of bone. Good thing it didn't break my teeth. I reported that to the server who delivered my message to the chef since there wasn't a manager nor supervisor.
Each Ethiopian and Eritrean restaurant in Toronto brings its own distinctive touch to our Habesha authentic cuisine, but this particular restaurant truly transported me back home to my mom's kitchen. The food was not just amazing; it was served in generous portions. We ordered Tebes, chacha tebes (apologies for the rushed picture; I couldn't wait to dig in!), and Kornis for one. The prices here are reasonable when compared to other restaurants in the area. I must also commend their exceptional customer service, which deserves a solid 5-star rating.
I love Ethiopian food and I wanted to try a new place, so I found Abugida online and I called for takeout, the lady was so nice and friendly on the phone, I found the place no problem, parking is ample, but everyone is so friendly and welcoming! I love it here! Cha cha Tibs are the order to get! Vegetarian no problem! Definitely recommend this place!!
2025 Food is consistently good at Abugida. Frequented the establishment several times in 2024 but did not always have time to write reviews. We called the restaurant directly to order pick-up and avoid additional & exorbitant fees charged by apps. Please note the prices on the restaurant's own website are incorrect. Understand prices have gone up a lot durinf Covid but the website needs to updated. For that reason, we knocked off a star. 2023 Excellent Ethiopian restaurant. Food is simply delicious. We had #8 Chembelala and #27 Yebeg Tibes. They do not cut the injera as many other Ethiopian restaurants do in Toronto, which is great as we prefer to tear off pieces ourselves. Portions are generous and priced fairly. Service is fast. The lady who took our phone order was polite. We'll be back.
