Very mixed experience. Some of the meals were delicious, some very questionable. Very poor service and approach to tasting menu. Unlike usual tasting menu restaurants Canis did not offer any choice - just kind of set menu with confusing items description (e.g. pork which in reality is pork belly with high fat content) and no choices offered. As we sent some of the meals untouched nobody bothered to ask us if there was any problem and how they could fix it. Net, disappointing experience for the fine dining restaurant.
Really good food through the location wasnt what I was expecting. A bit plain and almost strip mall like setting but the food was out of this world. I appreciated they had pearl morisette wine on their list given that the winery is sold out for the year. Definitely deserving of the accolades overall, really enjoyable experience for my wife and I.
Don't let the exterior fool you, Canis has a very modern design on the inside. You do not get to choose your own meal, rather they have a tasting menu set up for the day that you will eating from. However, they do ask ahead of time if you have any allergies or food concerns, so that the chefs can alter the menu for you. The food was beautifully presented, and tasted amazing! Definitely make sure you try the duck, as they roasted it to perfection.
The food was excellent and they were super accommodating about dietary restrictions. We got the wine tasting to go with the 7-course dinner option. Everything was perfect. I would give it four dollar signs in terms of price though as with the 7 course option, wine pairing, plus tax and gratuity it came to $400 - or $200 a person which I wouldn't consider a $$ for that you would have to do the smaller menu option and then order no drinks other than tap water and it would be closer to $75 per person with tax and tip. Definitely a special occasion place and totally earned it's spot as #15 in Canada.
DisappointedMany restaurants at the same price are better than it. Two people must also order the same set meal. The food is small but the price is very high. The oyster is poorly treated and has a foul taste. The main course is less than 10oz beef for two people. It taste like any other store. Desserts are unskilled. You can do it in a home kitchen even better. I really don't recommend it.
