I was feeling under the weather, so I bought the beef soup. I’ll say it was vege not beef. Because there were absolutely no beef in it. If you’re paying for meat in your soup there should be at least 2-3 pieces. The flavour was good but I won’t be back.
I've been getting takeout from Mainsha Restaurant on Weston Rd for over a year. This place serves up some delicious Caribbean food with courteous service and congenial staff. The oxtail was the highlight – slightly sweet but bursting with rich flavour and tenderness. The jerk chicken was good, and the spicy beef patties had a perfectly flaky and crisp shell, filled generously. The casual cafeteria vibe of the restaurant wasn't the most inviting, but the food more than made up for it. Overall, a solid spot for great Caribbean dishes.
If you want to feel like home, get some food. My family and I needed some late night dinner and while it was late, I called the restaurant. The staff was pleasant, friendly and welcoming. We did not want any rice with our food and he was very accommodating by sending some dumplings and ripe plantain with our meal and he hooked us up. BEST CARIBBEAN FOOD and INCREDIBLE customer service. You have set the bar and we will most definitely be getting more food. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Ohhh my oxtail I went yesterday Food 100% Service 1 billion % Cindy was awesome she made sure all my needs were met I tried the soup also Price affordable I had to buy more than I wanted to spend. Keep cindy she's an amazing addition
It’s not the same Mainsha back in 2015 bruh! I am very disappointed the chicken is falling off the bone looks like it’s over cook which it shouldn’t be And the oil was sitting on the bottom and spilt all round the bag!? It’s nasty
Weson rd location - BEST ox-tail! I don't say it lightly. I've had several friends and family members (who never think anything from a jamaican restaurant tastes good enough) and they all agree. Very good ox-tail. I can't vouch for anything else because once I had the ox-tail I don't get anything else. Definitely worth trying if you're an ox-tail fan like myself. The service is good.
When you see a sign that says "All day Tuesday special: $4.50", you HAVE to try it to see what the catch is. Turns out, there is no catch; just good food at extremely good value. Service/ Atmosphere: I can't say much about the atmosphere and the service since I usually get the food to-go, but it's a nice homey place. The cashier is nice and even packs extra napkins when I got the oxtail (much appreciated). I guess they never ask if I need more than one fork, but these dishes are a perfect fit for one anyway. Food: As mentioned before, I've gotten the Tuesday specials as well as the large oxtail. The Tuesday special comes out to 4.50 and gives you a good amount of rice, coleslaw (optional), gravy (optional) and offers a choice of 3 types of chicken: jerk, fried or barbecue. Honestly, in this day, this much variety for a freshly-made meal at this price point is unthinkable. Concerning the taste of the special, it's good. At this price point, I shouldn't care about the taste, but it's good food. The chicken is the main star, the coleslaw's slight sweetness helps with the richness of the chicken, the gravy adds on good flavour and the rice soaks up all the leftover and fills you up. This is the kind of meal that I would be completely fine paying 10 dollars for (and I have; tip your local restaurants). If you buy it on not a Tuesday, it costs around 8.50 for a similar size, which is still good value. The oxtail is a bit more pricey at around 15 dollars, but still a good eat. My only complaint is that the meat was a bit bone heavy. Napkins are mandatory when eating this oxtail and it may not be for the impatient. Taste wise, still great. Overall: Over the past 4 weeks, I discovered this place and have probably eaten from here at least 5 times. This is the kind of place that you tell your friends and family about. It's not pretty enough to get you Instagram followers, but you're doing a disservice to yourself and your wallet if you're in the area and you don't try it 5/5 It's not perfect, but the price value is undeniably good, making it worth a perfect score.
