Food quality is top notch, enough menu variety to satisfy everyone yet small enough to know that they keep ingredients fresh. Salsa selection in person is fantastic, double wrapped tacos are the right way to do things and portion size is generous. The service is thoughtful and attentive. If I’d change anything - there’s only two super small things. 1 - Pineapple as a topping I’d want in smaller pieces, one big slice makes it hard to get a little in each bite. 2 - some of the tacos baseline are a little too spicy, I want to be able to add heat with the salsa selection, it’s a little strange that the least spicy taco is spicier than the mildest salsa.
Very pleased with place! It was such a cute little restaurant, food was amazing and the service was 10/10. The chef Phil made was amazing, came out to see how the food tasted. Highly recommend for your Taco cravings !!
Just wanted to share some feedback with the owners. I don't generally like leaving poor reviews and would like to take this down and leave a more positive review after changes are implemented. I ordered 2 quesotacos --the Adobada pork taco and carne asada this evening which were quite good actually. Great flavor on both proteins and the exterior of both meats were nice and brown and crispy. Only issues I had was that the cheese on both tacos were crisped up completely---like a parmesan crisp. It would be much better with a crisp on the cheese (oaxaca if possible) towards the exterior of the taco and gooey stringiness towards the middle. The vegan chorizo quesadilla needs more seasoning and a bit more chorizo flavor but besides that, was a decent quesadilla. The platters need alot of work: Very weak tasting Mexican rice. Not nearly enough flavor...stronger stock (or bouillon), more allium, herbs, tomato flavor, maybe Poblano peppers would amp the rice up alot. The corn tasted like it was straight out of a can. Char it on the flat top. Pick it up with some butter, cotija cheese, cilantro, crema to finish, and dry guajillo pepper seasoning The fish batter on the fried fish we ordered was soggy and the fish was mush. Maybe get a better beer batter recipe or purchase some pure cote starch to add into your mixture to keep the coating crisp - same for fried camarone. Also, cook for less time. I appreciate using cod for the platter though Beans were good. The rest of the playa cabana joints have always been in my top 5 joints for tacos in the city. Dave I know you are still working through the menu at this spot and Im sure you will get to the point where it will shine. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and has a real Mexican taqueria vibe. Really hope some changes are made and the place does well. I know how hard it is to operate a restaurant, especially if operating multiple locations. Ill take this down after a response, I just wanted to share some feedback.
I dined here 3 times in 2 weeks while doing a construction project near by. I met the owner on the 2nd visit, really cool guy. He even remembered my name and preferred toppings 10 days after my previous visit. Everything is made fresh to order, fresh toppings and homemade sauces and they get quite spicy if you're into that. 10/10 recommend this place.
For all the vegans out there looking for tacos, this place is a must try. Their vegan chorizo is flavourful, made with real vegetables and not fake meat. The salsa station has a variety of spicy and medium salsas as well!
Made a quick spot passing by and was very satisfied with their quality and portion! Cute restaurant. They serve the best soft serve ice cream highly recommend
Absolutely amazing hidden GEM - for now… the tacos were incredible, the grilled beef was a stand out, also the vegetarian tacos dorados! The staff is super friendly and the drinks are awesome! Specially the Paloma and margarita on tap! Highly recommend their special chicharrón tacos!
