I came here for the first time on a Sunday to get help fixing my bike. Firstly, I loved that it was a women, trans and NB safe space, which was respected the whole time I was there. Both Kit and Wednesday were volunteering their time and were incredibly kind and patient with me as I needed A LOT of hand holding throughout. I was able to fix by bike, which ended up being more damaged than I thought. I was impressed by Kit's level of knowledge and their willingness to share what they knew, plus juggling several other cyclists who came in. It's clear the folks here are passionate about bikes and building capacity in the community. I would highly recommend coming here to support Bike Pirates.
Great experience today found forks for a bmx bike that I desperately needed, staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. Thanks to the lovely person that helped me.
Volunteers on Wednesday night were super knowledgeable. I learned a lot and got so much done in only 1:30hs. They have used parts at a super affordable price and are happy to walk you through the process. The shop has most of the tools and parts you might need.
Bike Pirates provides excellent instruction on how to fix your bike, with a full bike repair shop, with use of all tools and parts available, all at low cost. What could be better? They even have Sunday hours for women and trans cyclists. Very knowledgeable. This is my go-to bike shop.
It was my first time at Bike Pirates and I needed my bottom bracket replaced. Tom and his colleagues were helpful, with showing me how to maintain my bike while showing the proper technique to take off and put back on the parts. Thanks for your support brothers, it was much appreciated! I’ll be back for more service repairs! ✌?Check this bike shop out all volunteer run! These people dedicated their time, to help other cyclists get back on their wheels.
Best place! I built my 1st bike more than a decade ago with them durong their queer hours. I gained confidence and respect specially in a industry where there is a lot of misogyny.
My experience (which was some time go to be fair) is similar to others written here. I found the environment to be really unwelcoming and bordering on hostile. The volunteer I was assigned mostly sulked and treated me like I was the dad who had abandoned him when he was six. I didn't actually end up fixing my bike because no one helped me figure out how to do so but did end up paying. A lot of people like to justify this place's poor interaction record by saying they're volunteers. Well I volunteer at a mens clinic and ALL of the volunteers there treat the people who come in like fellow humans deserving of basic respect and kindness because why wouldn't we? I recently had the back wheel of my bike stolen. I thought about giving this spot another try but seeing some of these reviews it doesn't look like much has changed and will instead be paying a lot of money that I don't have to get it fixed.
