I had one of the most unpleasant café experiences ever at Dark Horse, and I need to warn other parents and dog owners. I came in with my 14-month-old son and my teacup dog (he’s so tiny he can fit in my palm). I was holding BOTH my baby and my dog the entire time while trying to order. The cashier was polite and took my order, but another staff member — a big white woman — stood right there the whole time, hovering over me and watching everything. My son even said hi to her, and she said nothing. Then, after my order was placed and while I briefly set my dog down for two seconds just to grab my phone and pay, she suddenly snapped, “We don’t allow dogs in here.” So let me get this straight: you watch me walk in holding a baby and a tiny dog, you let the cashier ring me up, you engage with my child — and only at the very end you decide to rudely announce the “no dogs” rule? That’s not enforcing policy, that’s targeting and humiliating customers for no reason. The way she handled it was hostile, unprofessional, and completely unnecessary. She clearly woke up in a bad mood and chose to take it out on me and my family. If this is how Dark Horse treats parents trying to juggle a baby and a coffee, or dog owners with tiny, harmless pets, then it’s not a welcoming space at all. My family and I will never return, and I strongly advise others — especially fellow parents and dog owners — to skip Dark Horse entirely. There are plenty of cafés in Toronto that actually know how to treat customers with respect.

Poor service, poor attitude. The girls at the front barely listened to my order and lacked that St Clair hospitality. Sorry but for a $7 matcha, I shouldn’t have to repeat myself over 3x. Much love tho.

If you are a big matcha fan, and like it to be strong— I would not recommend ordering from here. Other than that the space is quite large, with lots of seating and plugs to go around. I would come back, just not for the matcha! (i got the banana bread matcha)

Please verify with your customers how many pumps of syrup, if any, they want in. Every place makes a London Fog different and yours was way too sweet, please don’t assume that all your customers enjoy or can consume artificial sweeteners for health reasons. Really annoyed I paid so much for something that made me sick because of how artificially sweetened it was.

I've waited a long time....I don't mind, it was busy. But they forgot my order....& Again it's fine but a nice 'we're sorry" goes a long way. Coffee is expensive& food too...customer service is a must I think. But great coffee & treats. I just think it makes a difference if you feel acknowledged. A good skill to teach our staff.

This feels like a corner of Little Italy that I feel bad about sharing! This place makes me want to gate-keep it! Danny and Jenny today were super helpful, making me explore my tastebuds a bit more and I loved it! The tasted coconut une cookie was great, and the matcha lychee with sparkling water instead of milk - made to perfection!

great drinks, great grocery section, friendly baristas. there never seems to be anywhere to sit no matter the time of day I'm there, however. lots of people on laptops.
