Great options if you’re booking for bread, lunch or a snack! I’ve tried a few things like the regular sourdough loaf, the toastie and the chocolate almond croissant. My only complaint would be that one of my toasties was heated up perfectly and then the next week when I got one and unwrapped it at home the cheese wasn’t even melted after they “heated it up”, but that won’t stop me from returning!
Original review: They did not offer to heat up my sandwich Updated review following reply: What I am saying is that for the price point of the gourmet sandwich they should have asked me if I would like to heat it up, inform me that it was an option. This is something basic that even Starbucks does.
Over all this is an amazing bakery and every pastry I’ve had here has been amazing across all locations. The only thing I wasn’t too pleased with was that the staff member who was helping me didn’t seem to know what one of the items was. I asked her what the chocolate cork was and she said ‘it’s chocolate with chocolate’. I wasn’t sure if she meant like literally chocolate or if it was some type of chocolate cake or pastry so I asked her if it was something like that. Her reply was ‘it’s chocolate and chocolate’. I asked it another way and got the same reply. I’m not sure if she was just not knowledgeable about the products or what it was but even aside from this part of the interaction she was a bit rude. The other girl who grabbed my pastries initially was super nice at least.
Nice selection of viennoiserie! Nice to be able to walk in and see the bakeshop through glass window. Not a sit down place , but we appreciate the stools, drip coffee and side table to be able to have our treats before going home.
Checked out this nice bakery during my bike ride in the area. The rhubarb galatte is good with the lightly sweet crystallized sugar balancing the tart and sour flavour from the rhubarb. The buckwheat caramel financier is nice too - the buckwheat cake part is quite moist with an earthy profile. I don’t particularly love the sweet and salty caramel centre simply because I’m not a caramel person. It will be more suited for caramel lovers.
My only complaint about Blackbird is that it’s not located directly next to my house. I love the sourdough and the baguettes are the best I’ve had in Toronto.
Love their bread. This company is largely responsible for the introduction and elevation of high-hydration sourdough baking in Toronto. Love their use of local grains. The desserts are great too. The chocolate bouchon is a treat.
