I was there recently when my friend bought their white sourdough bread and there was many chunks of flour throughout. that doesn’t even account for the next time i went. when i bought a clearly labeled gluten free treat and had a horrible allergic reaction. while i was in there purchasing the treat i witnessed employees being treated rudely by the staff and will definitely not be going in anytime soon ever.
One of my go-to bakeries! The atmosphere is cozy and the staff are friendly. My favorites: * Lemon tart — I’m a total lemon-holic, and this one tastes so fresh and real. It’s tangy, sour, not just sweet. * Challah — I grab this every time I visit. It’s sooo chewy! my family’s favorite. The fruit tart is also really good. love how crunchy the tart shell is. Highly recommend this place!
Got 2 cinnamon buns and they both tasted like they had melted plastic or a chemical cleaner in them. (Not a metaphor - legitimately I think there was somehow melted plastic baked into them) This is more for the staff to look into the baking process as something is definitely off and I now see others have said the same thing.
I paid $50 for a raspberry lemon cake that was terrible today. The cake tasted like it was 3 days old. Super dry, awful icing just not good. The fact that it's Mother's Day today made it that much worse. It's too bad cause I love the Queen St location.
Took home the Canadian "Lamb" Curry. It was flavourless schlock with almost no lamb. The one bite I did have was pure fat and inedible. Had to throw the whole thing out. Total rip off.
Fabulous Mable’s have opened up to eat in - don’t! Staff (the 2 guys) are absolutely clueless and couldn’t give less of a damn. Our food - quiche and savouries - were cold inside, luke warm coffee and no apology! It was as though we were the problem. I live right across the road and will sadly not go again. Mabel’s you need to stick to over the counter great food, or hire staff that can serve. Never left a bad review in my life and sorry to do so now.
I have been coming here for over 10 years. I won't be back - for cakes, anyway. I recently bought a carrot cake and it tasted worse than a grocery store one (somehow crumbly and doughy at the same time? No spices, sort of like a crumbly cake mix...) and the cost is much higher than they used to be. I read that they were bought out by a larger company called Fresh City in 2019, but I'm only seeing a quality shift recently, so I'm not sure exactly why the recipes for the cakes appear to have changed! Too bad, as I am used to getting *everything* I need from my lovely local shops in my neighbourhood.
