This store has deteriorated so much. It's mainly American books now which is a real change, and the remainders are few and downmarket. The store seems smaller somehow but I might be wrong. It's a good basic bookshop, slightly better than airport, nothing distinctive, and it's a bit sad.
I have been to this place a few times and have liked going there. If you live in the neighbourhood and are looking for books this is the place to go. I like how they don’t just sell books, they sell some jigsaw puzzles and a few cards. Also, unlike places like Indigo or Chapters, Book City gives you a free bookmark whenever you purchase a book.
I like Book City, a good independent book store that has the kinds of things I am looking for. A good poetry section for example, a Can Lit section. Also a good selection of the types of magazines I look for; Art Forum for example. Pleasant, efficient staff, generous with book marks! Parking available in public pay lots behind the strip of stores on Bloor.
My son bought all the books he wanted and got great recommendations for others like it. Such a great shop, so much variety and reminds me of when I was a kid and big box stores barely existed. The people there are real book enthusiasts and care!
This bookstore was my second home when I lived in the village. Always interesting, curious, titles for a bargain and discounts on the newest ones. I cannot recommend them enough!!
As an avid reader and goodreads user I had a nice positive experience at this bookstore in the West End of Toronto. Friendly staff who were willing to discuss fantasy books and their availability as well as a large selection of paperbacks, hardcovers, and graphic novels. They also have a useful website with title recommendations from the various locations.
Excellent selection, with lots of books on sale, but as others have said, the staff are quite cold. In other stores the workers actually greet customers occasionally, for example, but that’s never happened to me here in the dozens of times I’ve visited.
