Walked by this cozy cafe/bookstore/wine bar so many times. Finally went in and was not disappointed! The coffee was perfectly strong without being overly acidic or sour. The book selection was immaculate (I could get lost perusing through the shelves) and for sale. Cherry on top was the beautiful ceiling and the stained glass panels. Staff was friendly and there was a book club meeting happening which added to the vibes of this beautiful corner cafe. A must try in my opinion. Would definitely try the cocktails next time.
Stumbled upon this gem on our visit to Toronto. Perfect find for the autumn time. Amazing selection of books, syrup made on the house, great recipes, warm and cozy atmosphere, and friendly staff. Felt like a bookstore out of Harry Potter
Visited as a short stop while bookstore hopping with a friend. The space is small, so probably not ideal for a day of study/work. I think it’s catered for browsing and having a quick drink or bite to eat, and as others have mentioned, there is a variety of books here.
What a quaint little bookstore! I perused books and lingered over a nice hot chai latte. Spoke with other customers about favorite reads, and with one of the staff about books, of course. ☺️ Happy that I came across it during my visit to the city
The best espresso ever. This place brings an air of coterie and feels so cozy and welcoming Came in for a water in the summer heat and left in a state of awe !! The staff were so kind and the shop itself had beautiful atmosphere.
Such a hidden gem of a place! Quality of the coffee/drinks are top notch and I love exploring the books on display as I wait for my coffee. Also, the lemon loaf here is insane! So moist, perfectly sweet, and delicious.
I have a love-hate relationship with this place (I have been here several times) and am posting in hopes that some of these issues are addressed so that it can be as amazing as it has the potential to be! The good: - amazing books - tasty and unique cocktails, plus good coffee - there is no other cafe-bar-bookstore in Toronto and it is the perfect type of place to go if you want to chill. The bad - it is extremely uncomfortable for both book-shoppers and readers/drinkers. The layout makes it so cramped so you can’t look at books without bumping into people and can’t sit at the seats without having people constantly bump into you. The seats themselves (just stools) are extremely uncomfortable and you have to put your jackets/bags on the floor or on your lap. I suggest having books at the front and tables at the back, so there is not a constant crowding, and possibly some type of coat rack? - the workers are incredibly rude, especially one person with a short pixie cut. I am not looking for overly friendly service, but it would be nice to not be completely ignored. This has consistently happened every time I have come, and every interaction has occurred this way: I walk in smiling and say hi (no smile or hi back), order my drink (no smile or even acknowledgement of what I ordered), and pay (worker just flips payment machine towards me with the tip screen, again without a word or smile). I usually assume someone is having a bad day but this has happened every time I have gone here and it is always a strange experience that leaves a really sour taste. Hopefully they sort out the terrible customer service and spacing issues and it would be the coolest spot in the city.
