I am specifically speaking of the MasterMind Toys at 639 Mount Pleasent. After have ordered the Coco Village Wooden Train & Table Playset at FOUR stores online starting from Etobicoke and going East and having each of the four orders canceled, due to no stock, even though i called two of the locations forst to make sure they had them, I was finally able to get the train set at Mount Pleasent. I phoned ahead, desperate and spoke with Ashley on the phone. I explained to her my overall frustration that the four stores had all canceled on me.Even though I i did my best on my end by confirming that the train was in stock. Ashley assured me she was up for the task and had me order onlone while she remained on the phone, and when her system confirmed by purchaae, she put the train set aside with me name on it for pick up. She assured me that the order was mine and would be ready to pick up whenever I could make it in. I picked up the train set today and I must thank Ashley personally for helping me. The i sode of this store is also lovley and so were the other two ladies- Jennifer and I cannot remeber the other ladies name who were working when I was in the store. I unfortunately was unable to meet Ashley in person as she was off that day but my appreciation goes out to her!! Thank you!
This has always been our neighbourhood go-to for birthday gifts and toy purchases. Recently under new ownership and management (Jason) it has gone down hill in terms of customer service. Lucas who has left was always so friendly and helpful! Recently I was there to purchase some items with my son and some gifts. There was a deal if you spent $75 or more you would receive a free Palm Pals-Snoopy. I purchased some items and an upcoming gift for my nephew for his birthday in April. The sales associates told me at checkout that gift receipts are good for 30 days and depending on the location, they may not allow for exchange after that period. They kindly suggested that I come back before the 30 days is up and repurchased the gift so I could obtain a new gift receipt to allow for enough time for exchange by my nephew if needed. A couple of weeks after my initial purchase, I went into the store and saw the manager Jason working and already knew with his cold demeanor every time I go in that this wasn’t going to be a friendly encounter. I was rushing to a baby shower and went to check out a few books and to repurchase the same unopened item for my nephew. I explained what the sales associates had told me a few weeks back and he said the gift receipt would still reprint the same dates. I asked if it was possible to just return and repurchase to get a new gift receipt printed as today’s purchase date. His sour expression and response was, “Yeah well that’s your right if that’s what you want to do”. Yes, that is exactly what I wanted to do when I explained the first time- direction given from your sale associates a few weeks prior. This has not been the first negative encounter with this manager. He’s often cold and just not welcoming. Sadly, we will no longer be walking over to purchase our gifts here. I value kind and friendly staff working at a toy store over a newly renovated space!
I have used this store for 5 years. Unfortunately, the last 3 times shopping was not great experience. The staff were not friendly anymore. No customer service. The most disappointing thing was they wrapped with white whirring paper. She said all wrapping was running out. How was that possible? Which kind gets exciting with plain white wrapping. It didn't come with ribbons and stickers. It is used to be.... maybe I expected too much... It's just too bad. They have good collections. Just no more hospitality.
I'm very disappointed in Mastermind, I'm sad to say. New ownership has changed this place from the joyful local, neighborhood toy store that it used to be. It's the same name and location, but a very different store. I have happily spent A LOT of money at Mastermind over the years. But yesterday, I took my daughter in with a birthday gift she'd received that she already owns. We weren't given a gift receipt, but the price tags, which are covered with a smaller white sticker to cover the price, clearly said Mastermind. Unfortunately, the store wouldn't consider a store credit AT ALL. The assistant manager on duty said they needed the receipt as proof of purchase, and because her friend had bought it on clearance, there was no way it could be returned anyway. Just kept saying "it's our store policy." She suggested we donate or regift it, but they cannot accept it. How can you say that with the child standing there?! We're never going back. It's back to Amazon or Indigo from now on. It was good while it lasted, Mastermind.
They’ve been advertising a Storytime and Giveaway event for August at 4 pm we went to one of them and there was no giveaway. It’s not about the giveaway it’s about integrity. If you’re gonna advertise something stick to it. Otherwise it’s a good clean store.
I was just in the store for the first time this morning and couldn't have been more disappointed. There was a long haired guy and asian lady working. There was only me and other customer in the store. The entire time they couldn't be bothered stopping their personal conversation behind the counter to say hello when entering the store or offer any assistance. If they made any suggestion at all, I was open to buying anything in the store, but by the end I didn't want to give this store any business out of principal of their staff's inadequacy. When I was in school and worked retail, something called customer service existed.
I missed going in to the store with my kids. Finally that the restrictions have been partially lifted we were able to walk in, look around and shop. What a wonderful experience to have again!
