Summerhill Market has been a store I’ve frequented for years, and I’ve always been satisfied with the quality of the products and the overall experience—until recently. On a recent visit, I stopped at the entrance to admire the beautiful natural pine Christmas wreaths. As I looked for the price, I noticed something that genuinely surprised me - the tag read “Made in the USA.” It left me wondering why a Toronto grocery institution—one that prides itself on quality and community—would need to import natural pine decorations from the United States. Canada is home to vast forests and an abundance of pine. There is no shortage of local growers, artisans, or suppliers who could easily provide these products. Choosing to source something as quintessentially Canadian as a pine wreath from outside the country feels unnecessary and out of touch. Given the current political climate and the importance of supporting local industries, this decision feels especially disappointing. I expect better from a store that positions itself as a premium, community-focused market. Come on, Summerhill… you can do better.
lol 50 cents for a bag at checkout I could name at least over 5 grocery chains that give out bags for free and are not considered “specialty shops” Not to mention, Quality is very very mid nothing special whatsoever. Rude workers who don’t even talk to you while you are trying to check out. Great experience for shopping at a “high end” grocery store. I will definitely not be returning.
Great variety of pre made dishes, sandwiches, salads, treats, baked goods and unique Ontario sourced items. I appreciate the end of day discounts so very much!
Will no longer be shopping here as they do not care about the city or improving it. Enjoy the parking spots and plenty of people boycotting you as a result of your campaign against improving transit for everyone.
Leaving this review so that I could get any type of response! I genuinely love this place for all it has to offer and have been dropping by whenever I'm in the area. I bought a bag of bagels on sale last time I was there on 6/12, only to find all of them with molds when I got home and opened it literally the day of. I reached out to them via webform they specifically listed on their website, waited a week, and had not heard back. Gave it another go, waited a couple more days, and still haven't heard back. It's pretty disappointing since mistakes can happen, especially in grocery store with variety of stuffs, but at this point I can't help but think they just chose not to respond.
If you want the oldest fruit and vegetable you can find in the city. This is the spot for you! Edit. They must have replaced the manager. Much better quality and friendlier staff.
