DO NOT MAKE RESERVATIONS HERE!!!!! RUDE STAFF!!!!!! For my boyfriends and I anniversary we originally booked on open table for 8pm, we noticed we would be running late so we rebooked for 8:30-9:00 pm. We received a call letting us know that after 8:30 there is construction so it can be a little noisy, we said no problem we will be there between 8:30-9pm. He answered with sounds good. We arrived, and were told in a very rude way by this lady that your reservations were for 8 and it is 9 we are closed you were told to be here for 8. My boyfriend responded with repeating what the man had said but that it was okay no problem we’ll go somewhere else, she than basically was blaming the whole “miscommunication” on us. The issue I am having is I know my boyfriend and I heard the same thing on the phone, so why are we being told by this lady in such a rude way that it’s all our fault. I’m pretty sure my boyfriend and I on our anniversary last thing we want to do is be rude back to this lady or even argue with anyone which we were nice I regret being nice about it now, and obviously if the man told us they were closed why would anyone in their right mind show up regardless? anyways go to CHOP steakhouse restaurant they were the best the steak was amazing, staff were soooo nice all around and price for the deliciousness of the food was amazing I would recommend them not this place.
My visit to Modus Ristorante left much to be desired. It was no surprise that it was one of the few restaurants available on short notice for a large party, and unfortunately, the experience fell short of expectations. Upon arriving for my reservation, I was disappointed to learn that my table had been given away. Despite being on time, the delay in seating us was frustrating, exacerbated by the dismissive and rude attitude of the owner who said it’s “normal for the holidays.” It took a lengthy 30+ minutes to be seated at a table meant for a maximum of four people, far from ideal for our group. Thankfully, our waitress was a bright spot in an otherwise poor experience. She was lovely and provided us with informative service. However, the overall dining experience was marred by the initial delay and inadequate seating arrangements. To add to the disappointment, my guests found the food to be bland and unimpressive. Their feedback echoed my own sentiments, leaving us all underwhelmed.
Food was overall okay. We were a group and most of us enjoyed our dishes. The seafood pasta special was a bit disappointing imo. Service from the wait staff for our table was not good. We were rushed through the entire dinner. They kept trying to clear plates when people still have food on them. Happened three or four times at different courses.
Was there today for lunch. I must say our waiter was excellent, very attentive. The atmosphere was nice. The pasta was a little salty, the salads were ok, the French fries were oily. The bread and warm olives were probably the best thing I had today. Little expensive for the quality.
Overall, very little value for an extremely overpriced lunch. I took my business contact for lunch yesterday to Modus and was literally shocked with the final bill of $150 (tip and tax). We were drinking water (being upsold for 2 bottles, while wanting tap water), I had an appetizer as the only meal of a raw tuna with a few greens (it was tasty, but a quantity equivalent to 3 pieces of sashimi tuna) and shared 10 olives and toasted bread. My friend had a Cesar salad and pasta with sausage. For context, I feel privileged to travel and dine in Italy many times over the years, in restaurants that ranged from Michelin star places to family no nuances taverns in variety of towns and villages. I have also been in many Italian restaurants in Toronto, and NA by large, and generally enjoy simple Italian cuisine. And I do not leave comments often but felt an urge to point out to other guests that Modus is the lowest value restaurant that I can recall. The food was ok but very basic, that would probably cost 40 Euros or less in any restaurant in Rome or Milan. No wonder the restaurant was half empty on a beautiful afternoon during the lunch hour.
There was a mouse running in the dining area. This happened today during lunch. Atmosphere would’ve received 5 stars but the mouse ruined the meal for a few members in our table. The food that I ordered was great. The calamari was extremely well presented and tasted perfect. Yellowtail tuna was tender and the cheesecake was buttery smooth. However a few of my colleagues had a horrible experience with the veal. The veal’s presentation looked bad and tasted like a blob of old meat in oil. Service was great the waiter refills our wine and water often. I enjoyed the meal but some of my colleagues expressed they thought the food was horrible and had an upset stomach afterwards.
I have had many business related meals here over the years as I work in the area... decided to entertain some friends on a Saturday evening and made a reservation for 8 people. I was just informed that the restaurant was bought out for that same night and they had to cancel my reservation. No alternative arrangements were offered, just a "sorry" nothing we can do. Very disappointed with the lack of service and effort to accommodate. Response back to owner: Then why did you take the reservation on Open Table then confirm it when we called later that week?
