Excellent experience service and delicious food! Israel, the gentleman who took care of our table was impressive and very keen to details. Need to work on the wine selection . We will definitely come back! 10 out of 10
Updated Review — 5 Stars I originally had a disappointing experience at Casa Morales due to the service we received that evening. However, what happened afterward completely changed my perspective. After posting my review, Felipe, the head chef, reached out to me personally. He messaged and called right away, took full responsibility for what happened, and genuinely wanted to understand how the experience could be improved. He went above and beyond to make things right, not with excuses, but with sincere care and professionalism. It’s rare to see this level of commitment to guest experience. Felipe’s response showed that Casa Morales has a management team that truly cares, listens, and takes action. The food was excellent during our visit, and now I can confidently say the service and leadership behind it are just as impressive. Because of Felipe’s genuine effort and the way the situation was handled, I’m changing my review from 1 star to 5 stars. This is what real hospitality looks like, and it speaks volumes about the quality of the team at Casa Morales. The original 1 star review: Everything we ordered was delicious, and we truly appreciate the effort that goes into the food. We ordered 3 appetizers, 3 entrees and 2 mains between 4 people, and we had more than enough food. However, the overall dining experience was very disappointing. Our server reminded us at least six times that there was a two hour table limit, to the point where it made us feel rushed the entire evening. He did not offer us dessert, and we were essentially asked to leave while our Barbacoa was still sitting on the table, even though the chef had just finished preparing it. We spent over $400 including tip, and unfortunately the service left a very bad impression. When operating a fine dining restaurant, the guest experience should reflect that standard. Diners should be able to enjoy their meal without feeling pressured or pushed out. This experience has left a bad taste for us, and at this point we wouldn’t consider returning, which is unfortunate given how good the food was. We wanted to share this in the hopes that this can be addressed for future guests.
As a Mexican I found the dishes to be definitely an interesting fusion, and overall I loved it! Everything was delicious, some flavours were super familiar and traditional and others were new and innovative. The only little thing is I’d have love to try their most spicy sauces that I didn’t know existed until the end of the dinner, but definitely will try next time.
Ceviche: great fruity flavor. Coconut/pineapple/apple. Rockfish has no unique flavor or texture itself. Mole: very tomatoy. Not the rich/chocolatey/nutty/spicy profile I’m looking for. Didn’t offer extra spicy salsa by default. Portion size tiny.
Casa Morales is hands-down the most amazing Mexican restaurant in downtown Toronto. The chef, Felipe, is truly a creative genius. If you don’t believe me, try the grapes and nopales salad, the bienvenida of blue corn tostadas with a salsa bar, and the barbacoa. Chava and Isabel are great at the bar. Try the Bendito Dios drink. Now, for a suggestion to the owner is to follow the lead of El Rey and get a collection of cool Mezcales and have a separate Mezcal menu. This will bring this place to the stratosphere.
This spot delivers when it comes to flavor. Both the carnitas and barbacoa stand out — tender, juicy, and beautifully seasoned. Having the chef personally visit the table to serve and explain the dishes was a thoughtful and engaging touch that added an element of authenticity and connection to the meal. While the main courses were impressive, the other dishes felt more ordinary — pleasant, but lacking the same depth and refinement found in the signature dishes. The cocktails were well-balanced and complemented the food nicely. That said, the overall ambiance leaves something to be desired. The lighting is quite dim, which might suit a bar setting but feels less inviting for a dining experience where you want to see and savor your food. Similarly, while the staff are warm and accommodating, the service execution and interior design don’t quite align with the restaurant’s slightly premium pricing. There’s a sense that something — that final polish and attention to detail — is missing to elevate it to the level it aspires to. Still, for the carnitas and barbacoa alone, it’s well worth a visit. With a few refinements, this could easily become one of the city’s standout modern Mexican dining spots.
I have been living in Canada for three years, and during this time, we’ve tried over 30 restaurants. When it comes to service, Casa Morales truly stands out as the best. From the moment we walked in, we were treated with warmth and genuine hospitality. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service went far beyond our expectations. A heartfelt thank you to everyone at Casa Morales for making our second wedding anniversary such a wonderful and memorable experience. We’ll definitely be returning!
