My experience with Brook Kavanagh, the owner of Taqueria El Valiente, has been completely unacceptable. On September 20th, 2025, I hosted a party at Season Six, his sister restaurant. Prior to the event, I confirmed arrangements and specifically asked about last-minute changes in attendance. I was assured that unforeseen absences would not result in financial penalties. Based on these assurances, I booked and paid for my party in good faith. At the end of the night, I was pressured into buying expensive bottles of alcohol to “meet the minimum spend”—a calculation that was incorrect and clearly designed to overcharge. I was subsequently billed an additional $386.69 for four guests who didn’t attend due to legitimate circumstances. Since then, Brook has screened my calls, ignored my emails, and failed to honor repeated promises to reimburse me. This is not just poor customer service; it reflects the policies and practices of Badlands under his management, which prioritize profit over fairness and basic decency. If you value honesty, transparency, and accountability, avoid doing business with Brook Kavanagh and Tacqueria El Valiente. This experience has been frustrating, disappointing, and entirely avoidable.
Cute small place that feels like a fun little hole in the wall. Unfortunately, the prices are much higher than expected (~$8 for a single taco). We ordered quesadillas, and the jackfruit one was tasty, but the chicken one was tasteless, and both were VERY wet. The last slice of each was basically soaked through by the time we got to it. We couldn't finish one of them. Also got the guac and chips - good quality chips, but the guac was mediocre.
Got the beef brisket quesadilla; no colour on the tortilla, cut very oddly as in 2 triangles and 2 strips?, and birria consome had very little flavour, basically flavoured water
Stopped by for lunch after a year+ in the area and unfortunately won't be back. Decent tacos, exorbitant price. I figured $9+tax was for x2 tacos...nope. Paid $18.65 for a chicken and (very dry) beef taco - even a medicine cup of sauce was extra $. I was still hungry after near $20 of food and had to make a stop down the street to finish lunch. This is not 5 star dining - please reel in the pricing.
A delicious taco joint squirreled away. I highly HIGHLY recommend the cochinitas. So juicy and flavourful!!! The quesabirria was good too but not as impressive to me as the cochinitas. The consomme was a little light but if you think consimme is generally too heavy to enjoy, its a good balance between flavour and oil. Our server was very nice and our food came out quickly! You get a good portion for what you pay, and the size of the servings are right next to the menu so you can decide if it's worth it yourself!
Went here because the reviews were great but we were a bit disappointed. Unfortunately you do not get a lot of food for the money you spend. Our dishes, including cocktails, had the same weird after taste which overall kind of prevented us from enjoying it. The chicken in my meal was dry and it overall seemed to lack seasoning while simultaneously tasing bitter?! However, the ceviche did taste good! Staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was nice!
Never got to try food. Walked in and waited 10min before anyone even acknowledged I was there. Then they proceeded to ignore me after seeing I was there. Horrible customer service!! I will never return.
