The Pet Value at Agincourt Mall is wonderful. The staff is very welcoming and extremely helpful. I've had to purchase specialty food and specific brands for my foster Frenchie, and the staff have absolutely stepped up and assisted me with all my inquiries.
This was only my third visit to PetValu, and unfortunately, the staff ! ? (? ): We purchased several essentials, including a dog vest, shortly after getting our 2-month-old puppy. (? ): I returned to ask about exchanging the vest due to a factory defect—the buckle wouldn’t open, and we had to dangerously scoot our puppy out of it. I was wearing a sun hat and carrying a trolley (heading to No Frills afterward for grocery). A staff member I hadn’t met before (she was an angel) told me I could return the vest even without a receipt. So okay, yey, that’s cool Also, I asked for dog food recommendations and read a few bags in-store. ? (?): I came back with the defective vest, only to be met with immediate hostility. (?’?-?”), -?, (? ) . She said, “?… … , .” I was shocked and confused. I have absolutely no idea who she was referring to, and it was only the second time I had ever interacted with her (the first being on March 28). Plus, I only went in with a trolley once! She dismissed my concern about the defective vest, saying it couldn’t be returned because it was used, had a stain, un-resellable, and I didn’t have a receipt. Her tone was rude and condescending—she explained the store’s return policy as though I were trying to trick the system. Said “What? You don’t keep your receipts? You should always keep receipts!” I was simply acting on the advice I had been given during my previous visit! Instead of handling the situation with grace, she continued to treat me like I was trying to "get away" with something and doubled down on her false assumption that I was someone else who had caused trouble in the past. I returned again later to calmly ask for her name so I could share an accurate account of the incident. She even fanned the flame by saying that she had traced the day when I spent , , . Phew, the gaslighting !! I may have spent longer than usual trying to read the stuff at the store (DUHH, NEW PET OWNER) but saying I spent 1 hour without evidence is another accusation. Why would I spend 1 hour at a very small shop? And going into a shop without purchasing is apparently a CRIME now? She apologized and said “People make mistakes.” While that may be true, there's no excuse for instantly accusing a customer without evidence or treating them with such disrespect. I told her to at least give people the benefit of the doubt next time. I just read a lot of similar reviews from people who experienced the same rudeness from that lady. The team at this location is excellent. They have a genuine interest in the customers and their pets. They offer assistance with product selection and make recommendations if you are struggling with the multiple options.
It's pricey like all locations are, but it's got the basics that Walmart in the same area doesn't carry, so it's a convenient place to get what can't be gotten without going further away.
Website says nail trimming services for dogs are provided and I just called and they said they do not provide those services, they only sell the required products so I can do that myself…
The person who helped us was great. And they had literally everything I was looking for. My only complaint is that the store hours are listed wrong online. They close at 8pm, and it says 9pm on their own website and Google.
Great selection of products and at a decent price! It's a little cramped, but I do appreciate that they're in a smaller unit and are trying to squeeze as much in as possible. Not sure about the dog bells that smack against the glass door every time it's opened, but hey, it certainly gets everyone's attention.
