As a stroke survivor with left side paralysis, I needed a pair of backless sneakers modified by having a leather strap put on the heel. $100.00 for a job that took no time at all. I called at 1:15pm to see if they were ready. They were not. I told them that I had a ride scheduled to get me there at 3:00pm. They were then ready but at an obscene cost of $100.00. I will be shopping around for other shoe repair shops that aren't so ridiculously overpriced.
Nightmare, ZERO STARS, bad work, way overpriced. Never go here!! New owners are horrible & Nick no longer works here. Used to be a cult classic of the city up on DuPont. I have never written a bad review ever but this place is taking advantage & lying to people. New owners said Nick still worked there and wouldn’t give me a quote until he looked at the boots but agreed to get Nick to call me and discuss. Later I found out they had already done work on my boots before a quote or talking to me about what I wanted done. They kept pressuring me into a free drop off, which I refused. I later realized is a ploy to get customers to pay for terrible work without having to face them. Went in to grab boots and they had fully resoled with a cheap looking vibram instead of just adding a pad like I had asked for. They also wanted to charge $170 for just the vibram resole which is double anywhere else. I also needed a leather toe cap and for some reason they did it with what looked like very thin jacket leather. It was completely wrinkled and a different colour and texture. They wanted to charge me an additional $110 for this. I told them it looked like garbage and they said they would get Nick to look at it and fix it. I then had to harass them over the phone to get my boots done at this point. This is when I demanded to speak to Nick who was doing the work and I caught the new owners in their lie that Nick still even worked there, which they had told me many times. Turns out he sold the business to them over the pandemic. When my boots were finally finished I went it and was so disappointed. At first they even said they weren’t done and only gave them to me when I spotted them on the shelf. Instead of redoing the leather they had just slopped shoe repair tar over everything and did a terrible job at that. I should have walked out without paying but after arguing that this would crack and was a bad job and overpriced they gave me $100 off the $270 total. $160 is still way over average for these repairs. When I was in there they were also making new customers pay upfront and are now pushing the ‘free drop off’ even harder. It’s obvious to me that they are having constant issues with their awful quality, insane prices, and customers being unhappy and not wanting to pay. It’s also likely they moved for this reason. Now a few months later the tar is cracking, the soles they put on without my confirmation are fully coming off and my boots haven’t been as comfortable since. Total crooks.
I went out of my way to go to “Nick’s” since everyone was raving about it, despite the fact that there are many shoe repair places in my neighborhood. First off… They recently moved to a new location halfway across the city, and when I got to the new place (after calling a week in advance of picking them up and being told my shoes were already repaired), the person at the counter repeatedly stated that I “should have called ahead” of my arrival and that I was “lucky” that they were able to find my shoes given I just dropped in. I’m not sure why being able to find your customer’s shoes is a matter of luck?… They also (and more importantly) did a sloppy, messy job gluing my heel back—I couldn’t believe just how bad it was. I have a photo of the repaired heel versus the original heel side by side. When I mentioned it, no attempt was made to remedy the situation. Not sure what all the hype is about with this place, but I will not go here again. These very expensive shoes are ruined.
I went to Nick’s Custom footwear to have some Velcro on a pair of nursing shoes replaced. The cost was $45. Nick asked me if I wanted the heels refurbished for another $45. “$90 in total?” I asked. These nursing shoes cost $110 on sale. “No thank you Nick” I said and “I’ll let you know when I find a cheaper price” I said. I went to another cobbler shoe repair who would charge me $25 for the Velcro and then another place that is charging me $15 for the Velcro replacement and $25 to restore the heels for a total of $40 which is very reasonable. Nick‘s is far too expensive and overpriced and I encourage you all to do some comparison shopping. Imagine paying $90 for shoe repairs for shoes that cost $110 on sale a few years ago?
Customer service is bad. They didn't call me when my boots were ready- I told them to call instead of text, which they didn't do. Also, they closed for a week without any message on their website or phone.
Terrible experience. Asked IF they are able to DYE a leather belt as well as add a new belt hole, they confidently said yes. I dropped it off, asked that they put special care in maintaining the leather softness as best they could, they told me that when the person who will work on my belt got a chance to look at it, I would get a call telling me what they intend to do. Never got the call. Called to find out it was "ready", turns out they painted it with what appears to be ink, they only did HALF the belt, there were creases and bends that were not there before, AND they didn't put in any buckle holes. Ruined an expensive belt. If you have leather of good quality that you care about, do not bring it here.
I have a pair special edition Canada Blundstone boots that you can't get anymore. The soles were worn out, but I didn't want to throw them out because I didn't know how I possibly could get them replaced. The answer turned out to be simple. Call Nick's! They did a great job and now I have boots that are even better than new! The new soles are a high quality Vibram product and have far superior traction than what the boots originally came with. Thank you David and team for the great job, I'm very happy!
